Who here has played older Smith's and new 2023 and newer Smith's? How different feeling are the new ones being built back at Ken's shop (post the Brubaker builds)?

There was a notable difference for me when I played the Brubaker build..it sounded good but I didn’t like the feel of the instrument as opposed to the Black Tiger 5 I had in 2010.. Anywoo I ended up purchasing a nice playing 2000 BSR MW 6 TM-WN wings/RW FB for a good price.. I mainly a Jazz Bass guy but I wanted something different so this KS will do .

When I went to Washington Music to buy mine, the person in the guitar department told me that they store them out of reach because (and he used your exact words) “they are works of art”.

Five years ago I sold my Smith for $3300, I can’t believe what they’re going for these days.

Here’s the 2021 BSR Black Tiger I bought earlier this year. Stock picture then one I snapped showing the tiny size of a Thumb bass compared to a couple of my 6ers.

A new one would run you 9K and up. Not sure which came first, used market or new prices. Slower traffic but still people are buying. Nuts.

Last Sunday.
They tried to bury the Smith, but it still came through. They cut the last song, which was the most fun and showed off the Smith the most.

I have to let mine go. I’m going to get another one in a while but for now I have to move it. I just set it up and put in the new output pack from Ken. Plays like a dream. I know these basses are expensive so I am selling mine here for $500 less than I paid for it. Hopefully that’s fair.

Hello Ken Smith Bass Club ! Reaching out to see if anyone here might be interested in letting a Ken Smith 5 ? Seeking a BSR , BT Elite , PE , CR 5 in flame maple Top and walnut core , preferably. How ever if you only have a flame and mahogany core that cool too.
In the past I’ve owned a dozen or diff wood combinations and to discover I favored more the Flame / walnut combo .
