You should get BOTH. But you gotta have a 2-string bass. Serious fun .. re-thinking your whole approach the bass neck .. the challenge of mastering 2-string bass will overall improve your bass-playing skills for instruments with any number of strings.. I mean it. And hell, you can get one custom made to your favor, for the cost of a dinner for you and a date at a nice restaurant ! (I hope she'll understand, and enjoy the frozen pizza )

I have 2 Krappy Traveler shortscale 4 strings. I think one of mine may have been Kevin's first. Actually, I didn't know there were any others. I thought I was the only wacko who wanted a shortscale. The pix of mine are in this thread somewhere, can you post a pic of your's?

I play with a country/bluegrass/blues/swing/ragtime/roots group and the Krappy Traveler 4 fits right in. I've been playing the Krappys pretty much exclusively since I got them.

"Krapgrass"...I like that.

I think I have reached my limit for uploading pictures to TalkBass, without having to pay $$. But you can see pix @ krappyguitars.com. Mine is the "Joe Diddley" 4-string short scale. I am the owner of the 2-string half-fretted Joe Diddley bass, as well. [a Bo Diddley fan, here, if you haven't guessed]. Four Krappy's altogether: 3 basses and an electric uke !

My first 2-string was built w/ guitar tuners, and they were indeed a little painful on the fingers when tuning. I made a tuning wrench by saw a slot in a block of wood. Eventually, I replaced them with Gotoh guitar tuners with a higher gear ratio, and it has never been a problem since; wrench no longer needed.

For my second 2-string, I purchased two compact bass-size tuners from Stew-Mac, and sent them to Kevin and he used those.
