34" scale. Action is a little low for an upright, but I'm waiting for it to settle in a bit. The flats should also mellow out a little in a few days and weeks. Overall, I love it so far. I can't wait to pick up my bow at my parents house this weekend.

is that back block part of the build or an add on? the mic stand is brilliant! would like one...but with an bit longer scale...radius board and a bit higher bridge. are these his p'ups? or did you supply?
The block is something he supplied. I asked for 34" because I have arthritis and my main electric is a 5 string ubass, so going small these days... It's worth asking if he does a 41" scale.
This has the radiused board as well, and the pickups are his. In fact, he wouldn't tell me what they are! I will be building a buffer for the piezo, maybe tomorrow night, if not, definitely over the weekend, the fdeck "quick n dirty piezo buffer," that should help with the sound even more, but it sounds good passive too.

well then...so it is written...i think I need to re-visit this idea of mine....when I spoke to him last week...he seemed keen on doing an EUB...maybe I will supply the guts and have hime do the heavy lifting...cool. thanks for the info....krapp on brutha!!!

Yeah, my last Krappy arrived in the box heavily doused in linseed oil. It was smelling up the entire room for a long time. The smell has subsided since then, but still detectable close-up.
You probably all know that these are unfinished instruments, and it's a good idea to rub them down well with lemon oil, from time to time. You may notice your axe developing a dull whitish tinge after a while ... so hit 'em up with lemon oil to keep the wood from drying out.
A special hello to all of you new, or soon-to-be, 2-string bass players. I've been a 2-string afficionado since I bought my first Krappy in 2008. It was an interesting challenge at first.. visualizing my scales vertically up the neck instead of laterally across the fingerboard. Now it's like 2nd nature.. the things practically play themselves, and a 4-string bass will feel just plain weird at first, whenever I pick one up to play.
I think there could be a 2-string bass revolution in the making. Perhaps not as big as the ukulele revival or the cigar-box guitar nation ... but something's happening, and it's great to be part of it at Ground Zero.
Finally, good luck to you Mr. Owl in all your future endeavors. I appreciate your efforts here.

I bowed my krappy for the first time this afternoon, not too bad. The ghs flats are not upright strings, so it still take a little bit to work them in, and some extra rosin. I'm sure that some more bowing practice is in order too. The action is low though, I'm going to have to raise the nut and bridge a little. The fingerboard may need to be planed a little for relief to accommodate the bowing as well. But, to be fair, I think this was intended for pizz more than bowing, and someone not coming from an upright background may love how easily it plays. I do love it, just a few adjustments needed. Kevin really did a great job on this.
I raised the bridge tonight and also built the fdeck quick n dirty piezo buffer, it's working well so far! I'm going to have a few hours between sound gigs tomorrow to play, with the bow and without, and in a very nice hall no less.
Just put in an order for shortscale 4 string Mouse-inspired bass with a fake f-hole. Pretty excited for my first Krap!
Maybe not a huge one but I've recently built a couple CBGs and am starting to gather parts for a 2 string bass. I've got a really cool box for it, but want to do a laminate neck (heading to lumber store today). Just need to find some cheap tuners...
(this is the reason I did the CGBs, just to get some practice before I do basses.)
I'll probably try two peizos to start but may end up throwing a pickup in, looks like Krappy makes his own two string pu's. Above my paygrade I think. Maybe i could just get that from him?
for CBG i think you could use something cheap and "acoustic" like this bridge with piezo that would show off the box better

Yeah CBGitty has several pickup configs on their site. They have a double piezo with a volume knob I was considering. (Can always be replaced later). It would just be two discs inside the box.
But this is the pick up I was thinking might be nice from Krappy:

my babies...."rick-n-krapper" & "1/2 pint"...half fretless...arrived....they are REAL...and they are Fabulous!!! such workmanship and playability. The 1/2 fretless is stellar and the "rick" rocks....best bass buy in a long time.....
