Got my first set of 760FLs today and slapped them on the P. Ive had flats on it before (760FMs for like 4 years) but sadly broke the D string on the reinstall a while back. Went to rounds for a while but missed that flat feeling and tone. Decided to go with the FLs this time to be a little easier on the neck of my bass and my fretting hand. These definitely feel lighter than the FMs (D and G strings were really taught on the FMs imo) and even similar to the medium gauge Dunlop Super Bright rounds I had on. Don't want to comment on tone yet cause i'd like the strings to settle in/down a bit. If they can thump then I plan on having them on this P til one or the other breaks.

That's one of the great things about the DTF family, the different gauges sound very similar so there's no need in torturing yourself with super-tight strings. I really like the 760FX 39-96 set but like the FL's a little more.
I've never tried the 760FX set. What makes you prefer the FL set? Are the FX's too floppy?
They really aren't, the FL's have a wee bit more growl down low...and I play in Eb quite a bit, the bigger strings are better for that.

My 760FLs are quite a few months old, were bought secondhand, and have done lots of gigs...and I have a need for some brightness in my tone. You might not believe how much a denatured alcohol rubdown will bring the brightness back, even after quite a few sweaty outdoor gigs! They will still do the *clank* if you play them that way...

They can be quite versatile strings if you remove the gunk an' keep da funk!

Of course, we should all take this "funk in the gunk" thing with a grain of salt in the light of the fact the guy who said it was drunk as a skunk most of the time.
A little reminder that you don't have to have a P or a fretless to join in the fun. After a chum challenged me to I put 760FLs on both my Wal basses about 18 months ago. I thought I'd miss all the zing I knew I was going to lose but the mid range fundamental power that replaced it was so so much better.
And I love playing with a pick on the FLs. Gone is all the annoying scratchiness and it's replaced with solid punch and authority. Fantastic!!!

Oh yeah...760FLs with a pick are really nice, no doubt!
I'm thinking about putting them on one of my Jazz Basses since I will still have one J with rounds. A Jazz with flats is a Beautiful Thing!

Ok, with all this 760FL love flowing around here, I decided to order some 760FS strings. The main band I play in is usually tuned to Eb and I'm a curious sort, looking for maybe a touch more tension tuned down. Will report back here and maybe elsewhere with the results!

So I installed the 760FS set....and so far, NOT impressed. The E is Dead. The D is way too tight but sounds good. In fact the A-D-G strings sound ok, but not as good as the FL set. I know y'all will tell me to A) "Make SURE the E is not twisted!" - I have. or B) "Play them in, they'll balance." - Why didn't I have to do that with the FL set? If they all go as dead as the E I will not be happy. I'm a 'brightish flats' lover.

I'm actually having the same experience with the new sets of FL's I just put on now. A-D-G ring out way more where as E already seems dead in comparison. I'm about 3 weeks in on option B.
Wow, that's disappointing. I've got a new pack of 760FLs too but now I'm afraid LaBella's QC is lacking. My old set of FLs are soaking in denatured alcohol...might just put them back on, these FSs are unplayable for me.
The 760FS set seems to be way more old school sounding than the FL's. I fished the FL's back out of the alcohol and put them back on. They Sound Marvelous. Quite ringy with highs, mids and lows. They are much brighter than the FS set was right out of the box. Is this to be expected @SLaPiNFuNK ??

I've got a set of 760FMs on my P-Bass. I love the thumpy goodness, and the high tension feels great to me. Works with either fingers or pick. I'm a La Bella player for life, but just on my P (I have Fender light flats on my J).
If I ever go back to playing flats on my P, the 760FL will be at the top of my shopping list. Meanwhile, though, I'm very satisfied with the way my J is happily purrring with smooth punch with the Fender 9050CL right now. I'm more for the punch than the thump, I guess...
