The last thing I'll ever say about shorts...

For people who take issue with wearing shorts:

The shear volume of posts in that thread was striking. Since people seem to care a lot about not performing in a particular type of clothing, it's interesting why they care and who they are. My hypothesis was that pros or semi-pros would object to "unprofessional" clothing more than amateurs, but so far it's the amateurs who've objected more. Of course, it's self-selecting, totally unscientific, and who knows the total proportion of amateurs to pros on the forums.

I wear shorts on stage if it fits the occasion - hot, outdoors, audience wears summer clothes is one such situation. I don't know what this hubbub is all about, you shorts/hats/shades haters are overthinking this in a big way. Choose attire that fits the occasion, and know that no one but you worry about the length of your pant legs as long as you stand on stage with conviction and make the music groove.

Results are not public, so don't worry about outing yourself as an Old or an amateur.

My own opinion is that I don't care what a band wears*, I'm a dude, and I'm under 50 but not by a whole lot.

*exception: if they have themed "costumes" that specifically add to the performance, like the Who's jumpsuits or Nation of Ulysses' tailored suits or whatever Parliament comes up with.

You left off "I do perform in shorts." Then we could see if we non-shorts-performers are in the minority.

Carrots are well ahead in the poll. Afaik this is the first ever TB poll that loses to carrots. IMO it's conclusive proof that the poll is considered BOGUS by the MAJORITY of sensible bassists that wear shorts when everyone else is wearing shorts because it would be daft to be the only idiot in long pants.
