The MarkBass SD800 appreciation thread

Whats up guys, Those interested in a SD800 there is a couple of nice SD800s on Ebay for 500 or so right now, not to bad.

For those that are in the SD800 club, I highly suggest getting the MarkBass amp bag large for your amp.

My amp now has a little issue. Sometimes it won't turn on and make any noise. When this happens, there is a red light on inside. I switched out the speaker cable and it seems to have fixed it, but anyone have experience with this issue? My best guess is that is has some internal protection against wrong current or impedance? :/

Im definitely no expert and havent experienced an issue like that, but sounds like it was an issue with the speaker cable. Never seen a red light inside my amp as well.

Last night I had the SD800 going through the Ampgeg 8x10 cab, I decided to try something different and had the gain almost maxed where the clipping light started to show and then backed it down a bit, and I had the master barely up. Its actually recommended in the manual to do it this way.
I ended up putting it back to where I usually do pretty quickly. I dont know if I just didnt give it enough time or I was just missing the tone that I usually have but I didnt like it with so much gain.

Does anyone run the SD800 in this way, the way recommended in the manual?

I run my gain at 2-3 o' clock, if not higher. I adjust the volume as needed. I used to run the gain down low, around 9-10, and I enjoyed the amp a lot more after cranking the gain. I might try diming it next practice.

I never got the manual with mine.

I dunno if this counts,but i just bought a used 800 tube amp,and installed it in my cmd121p combo,which i pair with a 1-12 Traveller cabinet. It Definitely adds more oomph in the lower frequencies,even at lower volume. I've read lots of accounts that the tube channel didn't add much color,but in my initial listen to it ,i noticed it adds a very nice subtle crunch. ( i mainly play passive Rickenbackers,with both sc and hb pickups). I am keeping the combo head as a backup. I really like Markbass products in general,very happy wirh the neo 12 speakers,and their amps are just so easy to use and set up useful tones.
