The Mars Volta?

The New Album is called "Amputechture" and it is set to release August 15th. The first single is going to be released on June 28th.

From what I hear they are pretty hit or miss live. I have seen tons of their live videos and everything I have seen has been insane, never actually gotten to see them live though. They are amazing, Juan Alderete is one of my favorite bassists and I just love Cedric and Omar. Defenitely one of the most creative bands around today.

i have seen them play live three times last year and they are awesome live, their shows are never the same twice, they always break out in a random jam in the middle of drunkship of lanterns, i caught them on both ontario shows with system of a down and on their own at the kool haus the previous may, all three performances were significantly different, all three were mind boggling! definately worth seeing again and again.

I agree Mars Volta, Muse and Radiohead are my favourite hardcore heavy metal bands!

I never did quite find the "random jam" endearing. It was a loud skull-f--- that never went anywhere and ruined an otherwise great tune.

Glad you enjoyed it though.

TMV live was pretty amazing for me. It really depends on the listener. If you enjoy a lot of jamming that sometimes (or pretty often) goes on a tangent, you'll dig them. If you want them to replicate their cds, they might not be for you. Juan Alderete is a beast and Jon Theodore is amazing on drums, you can watch him all night. Tight tight tight stuff.

Great musicians. Deloused is my favorite. My only complaint live is Omar ALWAYS has his delay pedal on, so there is constantly guitar noise happening, during vocal melodies, other people's solos, in between songs...

Do people really think At the Drive In was "straight ahead"?

Sorry for calling them metal:rollno: as I said I dont listen to any of that and theyre about the heaviest band I like. Also I wouldnt say that Radiohead is anything like The Mars Volta at all. All I know is that Mars Volta is what all the hardcore kids reccomended and all listen to around here so once again sorry if I messed up putting a band in the correct genre.

I just bought the first two Mars Volta albums myself, and I really enjoyed them.

I saw TMV at big day out this year and they blew my mind. Whether you like them or not, their overall musicianship and tightness just blows you away, jamming for an hour and a half non stop and know exactly when and where each instrument does what its increadible. And to have a simply mindblowing drummer and a fantastic bass player to hold together the rhythm section whilst Omar goes off and does his psycopathic leads was great to watch, not to mention a Juan Alderete bass solo that nearly blew my pants off with a sound that really shook the whole showgrounds.

On another note my band recently covered Roulette Dares and I gotta tell you its one of the funnest songs to play and it feels good because you know your band has to be tight and know their stuff to pull it off. But on a lower note we played this at a party and I gotta tell you, any mars volta songs are lost on people who just can't appreciate the musical complexities of whats going on, it's a bit like tool in that respect. To a non-muso songs in weird timings may just sound like noise, and to those who aren't into all those weird 'ambient noise' breakdowns the song becomes lost because they don't really see what the band is trying to do, I guess, the art of it. Personally I think the mars volta are either love or hate, but to me, it's a love.

I know quite the few non-musicians who enjoy both Tool and TMV. Now please, lets not start the "OMG I love them both so much, now hers why...". Cause t's bee ndiscussed to death.

I didn't mean to sound like i was saying TMV and Tool fans are all musicians, because clearly they're not haha. I'm just saying that alot of people out there who aren't musicians, I know I've spoken to a few people, seem to put the complete randomness and obscureness of things like time signatures down as a reason why they don't like the bands. Things like this (crazy time sigs and ambiant noise breaks), IMHO seem to sound alot clearer and are somewhat more acceptable to musicians, but thats just my opinion.
