Hey—New (and very happy) Mike Lull owner here!

I think the thing to do is post a picture and request a number???

Here for your viewing pleasure is an early 1999 Lull M5 fretless #219. Curious if anyone here has seen/owned it before?

Beautifully bookmatched solid ash body, lined Ebony FB. Passive/Active Bartolini NTMB, w custom wound Seymour Duncan (I think) pickups. Two weeks in, I discovered they switch between single coil and HB mode via a push-pull volume pot!

It came to me with cobalt flats but is currently strung with Labella tapes, which I am digging for a great smooth almost P Bass/acoustic sound on the neck pu, while retaining a traditional j bass growl on the bridge pu.

I may go back to cobalts or possibly TIs or pressurewounds in a band situation if I need to cut into a mix. Tapes work best for "acoustic" situations I find, but can disappear in a dense mix.

Still getting used to a 35" scale fretless though, despite owning both a 35" fretted and multiple 34" fretted and fretless basses.

Bridge/spacing question.
So lull 5s come with the hipshot A bridge and 18mm as standard spacing on 5s. Hipshot say their A style allows 1.5mm adjustments to the saddle.
I'm used to playing 19mm in my others.
Technically i should be able to make my M5v 19mm spaced am I correct?

Can anyone see any reasons why this wouldnt work?

I feel the same way about that (Lull's 18mm vs MM's 17mm - Difference doesn't bother me) and scale length (Can't really notice going back and forth between 34" and 35").

However, we're all different and sensitive to various things about our basses (I struggle to play if my strap isn't set at just right height, I see folks that can play anywhere from under their neck to right at their crotch), so I respect folks' various preferences, even if I can't relate to those preferences. And that's why the available variables are there.

(Can anyone else hear "Buy The World A Coke" playing in the background? Showing my age....:roflmao: :roflmao:) But that's how I see it.

It's easy enough to try to make the adjustments and see what happens....

Yh thats what I thought, would take the outer strings B and G a touch 'closer to the edge' (a bit of risk is always exciting lol)
but im not too much of a string bender etc so not too worried about bending off etc.

It does make a little difference, enough for me to tell, not uncomfortably different though.
My 6 string Overwater Progress Deluxe is 18mm spacing and my KSD 705 is 19. Use the 6 more for chordal stuff and composition/soloing/jazz/world music etc.

Like to keep my 5s: KSD 705 and New Lull M5V as my workhorse/function/live basses and the extra 1mm I DO notice when slapping.

Exactly my point Sir, Im like the opposite to you, can play my basses various heights without batting an eye lid (within a couple of inches!) but I know some that people that measure out all their straps with a tape measure.

just looking for that extra comfort/homey feeling when playing hence why asking the 1mm difference is possible :)

To me yes...
Can I play a 19 or a 17?
Yes I can. However I prefer 18

You have not asked but on the 34 vs 35 OMG hell yes it makes a difference to me. To me, maybe not you but to me it does. I also have a heavy handed technique so the longer scale is more advantageous to a player like myself.

Geri these guys will do custom set length straps.
That is all I have been using for a while now and it helps a lot if you are particular.

Hello Lull Folks

I'm actually putting my M5 up for sale.
At this point I'm just letting this group know first.

I'm developing Not another signature but I another package of offerings for a certain PJ 5 right now with those guys and have more then my share of basses.

I know Gary you of all people probably would.
I'm purging everything that is excess at this point. It's just my TP5s, the new PJs for workhouse gigs and one JT5-24 for rock-rock so to speak and ironically (country and folk). The M5 is just crossing over to where I prefer the others. Yet this was the bass that started the 24Fret thing for me for Mike.
