I received my first Lull (P5) last summer and my 2nd & 3rd this past week! Amazing when it all comes together!

Beautiful collection. I wish I had the cash right now to pick up the MLP4 he just announced yesterday. Love the meaning of it.
It's not online, but Spencer announced it yesterday. Just a P4 but made after Mike Lull's own favorite P4. Limited to 6, I believe.

I had the pleasure of borrowing an AHPJ4 to play at church last weekend. The sound guys have always preferred my other Lull PJ4, but they absolutely loved the AHPJ4. Loved in all caps!
To me, that bass is essentially a J4 with a hot P pickup in the neck position (on a solid swamp ash body with an ebony fingerboard and roasted neck, with - as is my normal preference - chromes installed). I've tried some searches and have not found much about P pickups in that position.
After discussing this with Spencer, I thought I might have him install the AHPJ4 pickups in the same position in my M4V (chambered ash body, maple fingerboard). There are no guarantees that it's gonna sound just like the AHPJ4, but my impression is that it will be directionally consistent.
I would consider just buying an AHPJ4, but the 40 year old HVAC unit for our small business is failing and that is gonna cost some serious $$$.
I have already discussed this with one. Talkbass member (feel free to chime in!).
I'm curious what Mike Lull fans think of my plan. I'm also wondering how common it is to install a P pickup in same (or close) position as a J neck pickup.

Very interesting…would the P pickup routing allow you to interchange between original J neck pickup and P pickup, by using two different pickguard options (so if it doesn't accomplish your tone goal…you could revert to JJ ?)

Good question. I'm a planning on asking for it to be reversible to JJ.
My MLP4 arrived last week (solid Alder/Brazilian, 1.75" nut, 8.0 lbs)… The specially wound pickup (based on Mike's fav '64 P) is flat out amazing! I've been very pleased with the standard ML custom-wound P pickup in my other two, but the MLP4 version—next level articulate, organic, deeply rich tone. Quite sure the Brazilian fb has some positive influence, too…

I am so jealous you got one, but happy for you. I think I'm more jealous of the far left.
I really love my 54 IMA4, so I asked Spencer to build me a short scale with the same woods and pickup. Sounds amazing!
Nice one, Brad. I took the plunge and order something similar, though in the longer scale length. It should be completed sometime this spring. (It's blue, too).
