But why?

I'm sure that when you go to the zoo you don't get upset when the monkeys do something rude..... why is GC different?

Dan K.
Again, I honestly don't think he meant to be rude, he was just ignorant, not knowing what a Lull is.

I've been to MANY GCs MANY MANY times, and I've never run into a sales person that was rude in that way... tons of ignorance and gear neglect, but nothing like that at all, ever.

Just thought I would share my GC experience today... But I wanted to keep it in our club thread to not offend anyone else and because I know you guys will agree for sure.

Anyway, brought the M5V into GC today to try some amps... Sales guy walks up to me and says, "Cool bass, if you want to trade it in I can make you a great deal on a real Fender."

It was toooo funny for me to get mad or anything... I was gracious and just said, "Oh I'm cool Bro, thanks."

Bro that is hilarious! Ya know, this got me thinking. I feel in love with Vic's Fender ADPV earlier in the year. Fantastic instrument, but for the first time, I am totally content with my Lull. That instrument destroys every other one of its kind I've played. I love Fenders and own one myself, but guys this Lull is incredible!

As much as I usually don't like most pickguards (the stock tort as an example), the black is pretty damn sweet... most likely because the top isn't a "Crazy Go Wild" Exotic Top. Still, I'd pick up a clear one so you can swap out and go for "TJL" now and then.

Hmmmm... That is a very interesting idea, I will definitely keep that in mind.

Thanks Ian!

I am surprised you did not take him up on his offer right then and try to negotiate for a MIM, instead of the squire deal I am sure he had in mind.:rollno:

Why? He wasn't intending to be rude, he was just ignorant. C'mon, you know that's always the GC problem... ignorance... not maliciousness.

And that's why I wouldn't have been diplomatic. I expect salespeople to at least have SOME modicum of knowledge of instruments. Plus, it was rather obvious he was trying to hustle a sale.

I probably would have wound up challenging him to show me a "real" Fender in the shop as good as the Lull. After all, that's the reason I own Lulls.

But they don't carry Lull, and it's not like you see Lulls in your typical music store. Well, everyone makes their own choices, but I wouldn't have chosen to be rude with him at least. I don't see the point. He meant no harm.

Or he may have been part of the "if it doesn't say Fender on the headstock, then it isn't a real bass" crowd. I can't stand that false arrogance and I've dealt with that a few times.
Well, if I found out that was the case, then yeah, I wouldn't have any problem taking him to task and "schooling" him a bit, but of course there's no way to know that just from the one comment. That's all I'm sayin'.

You obviously have a higher tolerance level than I do. First, I don't like guys trying to hustle a sale like that. Second, if I wanted a Fender, I would have bought it in the first place rather than giving Mike my money.
I understand (and believe it or not, sympathize with) your position, but I think the problem is you're assuming the guy really knows what he's saying. :)

He doesn't know you or the bass, and his job as a sales person is to try to sell. So all he sees is some guy come in with (as far as he knows) some "no name Fender clone" and tries to offer an attractive trade-in deal. As long as he wasn't a jerk about how he said it (I'll just assume he wasn't, but I wasn't there), he's just being a good sales person, though suffering from a clear case of ignorance.

At least IMHO, a lot of the way I react to people lies in their intent. If he said something like that and I was pretty sure he was only trying to be a good salesperson (as I assume here), I really can't take him to task for that. I just laugh at him and move on. :)

On the other hand, if he did know what it was, then we could fairly safely assume he was just being a jerk, and it'd be a whole new ballgame. He'd be lucky if I didn't hit him with it. :D

At least IME, with the rampant ignorance I've run into at GC, and a general lack of running into blatant jerks, I'm leaning towards the first case. :)

Here's the Mike Lull P5 that I recently got from TB member funkythumb. Great bass! :)

Vic & Ron, sorry if my little GC story caused any arguments or anything but I am glad that it didn't get any further than just point of views and you guys are cool... I was worried there for a second. :D

edbutler3 - great bass Brother! One of these is definitely on my wishlist.

Maybe it looked worse than it was, but I felt no hostility whatsoever towards Ron, and I didn't read anything in his posts directed at me, either, so I think it's all good. :)
