I've owned many basses over the years although none would really be considered to be collector basses and worth a lot of dough. I have 6 right now, 2 Fender P/J basses, one's a fretless, 2 Rickenbacker basses, one a fretless, a Gibson EB-3 and a Fender Jazz. I think they all are different enough to keep. I have gotten compliments on the tone of mostly two of these from the audience, the fretted Ric 4001 and the fretted Fender P/J bass. I have gotten most of the compliments from bandmembers on those two also and on the fretless Fender. More people have noticed the different tones of them in smaller places than the bigger places, maybe a lot of guys who say people don't notice any difference are playing in bigger places than me. I have been using the P/J basses pretty much exclusively lately and could see me just keeping them to the exclusion of other basses but I don't want to and the others all have their place.
