The new bass just arrived but... Is this a defect ?

My new Sire P7 has just arrived.. But,

the strings and pickup pole pieces don't seem to align nicely (especially the P pickup).

Is this normal or should I return the bass ...?

I think I get what you're saying but it looks ok to me. If you hadn't mentioned it I might not have noticed. As long as it sounds right I wouldn't 'fret' over it...

If possible, shot the picture which cover from bridge till neck for easier inspect.

Try loose the neck screws, then pull the neck to G string side, once you see the string are well align with pickups pole piece, tighten the neck screw.

If the result are great, the A string will well align on neck dot.

The Sire bass I try at GC has better bridge to neck align than Fender Bass.

No problem there. It's almost a normal alignment, as long as they're pretty much between the poles.

Please post a pic of the neck! Maybe it has shifted during shipping.

It's easy to correct that.

My old EMGs don"t have visible pole piece. That's why. I wouldn't worry about it. The only bass I have that lines up perfectly is a Squier.

Check to see how it sounds. If it sounds great your concern is merely cosmetic.
