The night I shook Jaco's hand...

The drummer is definitely Ricky Sebastian ! He is a personal friend of mine - we played in a couple of bands together in high school. He called me a few years back, and I did some combo gigs with him. I knew that he had played with Herbie Mann and several other notables when he lived in New York. He told me that he had played with Jaco - and I told him that I was going home ! Anyway, I am proud to call him friend, and I can brag that I have played with a drummer that played with Jaco !

Maybe you should offer Ricky Sebastian for $50,000 on E Bay with free shipping with Buy it Now:woot:

This was probably at the end of Jaco's good years before he really went on a downward spiral. He reached the point where he was practically homeless. Have you ever seen that most recent footage of him that was released a few months ago? It was a mess.
Where did you see said footage, just curious. I like too remember him as I do all people, human and full of frailties. When listen too him know I still am humbled by his ability to play so tasteful and in tune at that speed. I still feel he is even now the best. (it's not a sport so I understand that it's just my opinion) ;)

Go on Youtube and search rare Jaco Footage 1986. I watched it again. Half of it isn't too bad but the stuff that was filmed later in that year was a travesty. You will see what I mean.

Awesome story - thanks for sharing. It would have been very interesting to have shared a moment with Jaco, just to get a sense of him. Sounds like it stuck with you for sure!

(also, the bass player in the Scofield video is Gary Grainger. He does look like Lionel Richie in that.)
