Depends on the application. I love the sound of those Single coils BUT they wouldn't work for what I do. I need something LESS aggressive and outfront.
Ken Jung would LOVE THESE pickups! Guaranteed.
The Big Splits get you that single coil tone (about 90%). They are still pretty aggressive compared to say the Sadowsky Humcancelling J's or probably even compared to the Nordstrand Humcancelling J's. Just a diffrent animal.
Testing is going well. I like the bass a lot. Just trying to get use to the neck profile compared to the Sadowsky.
I will say this though. I can see why Carey picked the bridge he did, very vintage. But I can see why Adrian, JaiRaj and Tom Bowlus (soon) put beefier ones on their Nordy's. I would want a beefier one too.
However, if you want that vintage tone and feel with MUCH MORE of everything. Buy a Nordy or five TODAY!
There will be a Nordy in my future.
I'm 95% certain I am going try Big Splits in the Nordy I have on order. Essentially my bass will have the same configuration as Adrians, except his has a badAss bridge. Mine will not.
I understand the Big Splits are one of Carey's favorite PU's right now, if not his favorite. I'm sure it depends on application and the sound you're going for. Right now, I'd like to get some pick ups in my new bass that have a bit more growl and bark than my F Bass. (Not that the F Bass is bad, it Kicks ass gig after gig) I continue to gravitate back toward a kick ass Jazz. Gary

Hey Bernie, No news here. I'm in the middle of the summer wait. I ordered April 30th with an estimated delivery time of 4 months. So I'm only 6 - 7 weeks in so far. Almost half way!
I am going to Las Vegas this weekend and hopefully will get a chance to check out Adrian Garcia's White/Maple Nordy with Big Splits.
I keep watching the Nordstrandguitars website hoping for an update on the "What's new" page. It's been over a month since the last update.

The thing about needing a new rig is there are no half measures. I actually have a new rig, and that just fuels my fire to hear more basses. I am using a Bergie IP112/EX112 and I just started using my Mesa Walkabout head as the preamp via DI Output. It's Freaking incredible! a great tube pre with an amazing 1000W amp and the tone of Bergies. Life is soooo good. I want another Nordy and I'd love to hear a Celinder and Sadowsky through this rig. But from what Adrian says, His Nordy cured the Celinder GAS. How cool is that? Gary

Someone on Talkbass needs to pick up Paul's Nordy. If I was in the position, I'd be doing whatever it took to get it. How cool would it be to own one of Paul's basses?

Gary, I just got a last minute gig on fri - it is a silly one. I play total of 17 minutes behind burlesque dancers. I will be done by 10:45 - Vic and I are supposed to get together so he can check out the wood combo on the mtd635. I am bringing my GK 212 combo to his room, so maybe we can hang a minute and you can check out the Nordy. Sat I am going to see Chaka Khan, but that is in the evening. Call me when u get in!

Well, Carey still has my vJ5, which will receive a 'production' version of the prototype preamp that was in this bass. While he has it, I am also switching to vol/vol. Oh, and something about a bridge....

So Carey and the guys were able to reverse-engineer the preamp on your Nordy?

I believe Andrew Gouche is with Chaka these days, but AJ would be the stuff! I have checked out AJ at the 55 bar in a room w 30 people. He is ridiculous!
