I listened to the game on WIP via Sirius. During the first intermission, they mentioned that game two was not sold out. That's kind of embarrassing for Philly.

Got on here late today. Missed most of the first period of the New Jersey/Philadelphia game. Seems like Bryzgalov saved them in the first, then got soft the rest of the way. Briere to the rescue with two to win it in OT! (yes, that first was most definitely kicked in!)
Flyers did dominate the OT and hopefully have woken up after being off a week.

Wait until they get up the pike to Trenton. Most of the fans in the stands will be for Philadelphia!
If you watched the Detroit/Nasville series, there was a ton of empty seats for Detroit in the Joe. Hockeytown? HAH!
Ahem... Newark... and we'll have plenty of red in the audience. Don't expect to see much orange out there!
Sorry I'm not buying it:
This season was the highest attendance at the Joe in the History of the Franchise. Considering the region is in for all intentions a depression, that's pretty good. Detroit was #4 in the league in attendance last season and isn't close to the fourth largest metro area.

Detroit averaged a sellout in every game this home season, to put that in perspective Pho averaged less than 72.5% fill rate (the worse in the league)
Sellouts differ from fans in the stands. I watched the games and even in the middle of the periods when fans should have been back in their seats, there were plenty of empty seats in the lower bowl.
Detroit sports fans still prefer going to a ball game rather than a hockey game.
Sorry, got the wrong city. Still, there will probably be about 5,000 Philly fans there!

You've never heard THIS Flyer fan being disrespectful to the Devils. They have always been a tough team to play.
Brodeur has been a phenomenal goaltender for many years. Elias and Parise have always been Flyer-killers. I was shaking my head when I heard that the Flyers were "heavy favorites" in the series. "Heavy favorites"??!!! Are you kidding me?! Like you said, there was one stinkin' point separating them in the standings. The season series was 3-2-1 in favor of the Flyers. Pretty close to dead even. I take NO team lightly in the playoffs.
Agreed. I think that generally speaking, Flyers fans are confident that the Flyers can win the series, but we have a lot of respect for Brodeur and the Devils.
I was texting back & forth with my family in Philly...none of them are that confident...thanks to Bryz in goal.
Also, about Regular Season attendance vs. Playoff attendance.
When the Playoffs begin, you lose your Season ticket holders...the diehards, of course, will buy a Playoff package. The Corporate yahoos that had a bunch of Regular Season seats tied up...probably not.
So, a lot of walk-up traffic + not knowing exactly when the games are scheduled are a factor for "less" attendance in the Playoffs (especially the early rounds).
I'm 100% sure Game 2 in Philly will be a sellout & a sea of ornage will be present in NJ for Game 3, 4.
When it comes to PHO, I'm happy for the team, not so much for the city or fans, because its obvious the city and fans don't care.
As far as attendance at the Joe, The Joe was rocking this year during the streak, those last four or five games we're as close to playoffs as anything I've seen down there in the regular season since the Ava-Det rivalry days. But I'd be the first to admit that the educated hockey fans of Detroit don't get as excited about the regular season and the early rounds as the fans in say, Vancouver. We're interested in the Cup not the Presidents Trophy.
And what's happened to Nashville? They looked like they lacked intensity to me. Was getting by Detroit such a goal that they're having a let down in the second round? While I think Weber is a very good player, he still seems to lack the maturity to be a leader on a team in a cup run, he took a stupid penalty yesterday and that's not the first time during this run. I was actually rooting for them, its a cool town, and for the South (unlike PHO) they seem to have some real hockey fans.
Could be their stupid webmasters...
