Do you guys see a lot of players crashing the net so far in the playoffs? Sure seems like it to me. Isn't that supposed to be illegal?

I really felt bad for Thomas in game seven when Knuble was standing on top of him. He had no chance to stop that goal. Happened to Brodeur and Theodore last night.

Mike; Crashing the net? Or Crashing INTO the net.

"Crashing the Net" is when attacking players all skate towards the goal crease trying to jump on rebounds and loose pucks, or to setup screens and deflections from point and high slot shots.

If you are a defending player you cannot deliberately knock the net of it's moorings to stop play or prevent a goal. That would be delay of game. If you are "helped" into the net as a result of contact (incidental or not) from an attacking player,...that is not considered deliberate. A lot of times that is a judgement call from the refs (as with goalie interference calls).

I'm talking about all the guys who are skating right at the goalie and hitting him or obstructing his ability to make a play. I believe that is illegal, and it seems to be happening more without being called as a penalty.

The thing I liked about the Flyers is every time a Pen got near Bryzgalov, a Flyer was there to put him on his back. When the Flyers did it to Fleury, sometimes a Pen tried to shove him out of the way.

I tend to agree with this. I'd be shocked to see a goaltender get it.

Hard to believe that Rangers v. Caps is on at 3pm tomorrow. What a quick turn around time. I hope the players are rested enough.. at least they got to stay in NY during this time.

Tomorrow should be a good day of hockey with that game and then the Kings and Blues at night. I'm eager to see how each series pans out.

It's like a linemen getting the mvp in the nfl. It's a quarterback award. The others are just happy to be nominated. Goalies though lately in the last few years really have been in the marketing spotlight for the nhl. The problem is all of them seem to only put a few years together then fade off.

Last night's game was by far the most nerve-racking couple hours of my life. I had heart palpitations each shot on goal and am finally relieved the Devils made it to the second round of the playoffs.

Now, I'm nervous again about seeing the Flyers this time around. They're a scrappy team and is the biggest obstacle between us and the Stanley Cup.

Now, with Marty Brodeur turning 40 on May 6th, do you think it's time to hang up the blocker and glove? We've made it farther than we have in years, I think this might be his swan song. I'd rather see him retire as the best in the business, and not fade into mediocrity like Dominik Hašek did.

This is something that drives me nuts. A team like Pittsburgh has the 2nd best record in the Eastern Conference but is ranked 4th because of procedure. The Atlantic Division is a dominant force.

If there was a structure that allowed four Atlantic Division teams to play other teams, I'm convinced we'd have an all Atlantic semifinal. But alas, Philly beat Pittsburgh so 3 out of 4 aren't bad at all.

While he's very good I wouldn't say he's the "best in the business" now. HE is playing at a high level like Lidstrom though, definitely incredible for his age.

It seems like the age of the "spectacular goalie" putting together a long run is coming to an end. I thought Fluery was going to be great for years to come, and he's seemed to go squirly of late. While there are still goalies out there capable of stealing a series or having a great playoff run it doesn't seem there are too many guys out there that do it year after year anymore. I can't remember the last goalie that's put together five great seasons with playoff runs in a row.

I've been saying for years that I wish they'd go back to the old playoff-seeding system. Conference standings were irrelevant. The top 16 point-getters made the playoffs, regardless of Conference. Let's say Vancouver finished at the top of the point race. And say Ottawa finished as the 16th-highest point getter. Vancouver would host Ottawa in Round 1. Number 2 would host Number 15, etc. Conference be damned. All boiled down to point totals. As a result, you wouldn't necessarily have 8 teams from each Conference make the playoffs.

IMO, that was the most equitable way to do it. Plus, I get sick of playing the same teams all the time. Take the Atlantic Division for example. The Flyers play each of those other teams 6 times during the regular season. This year they played the Pens in Round 1. Six MORE games against them. Next they have the Devils. Up to seven more games against them. Then whichever of those two teams makes it to the Conference finals might have to play the Rangers up to 7 MORE games. I think it's ridiculous. Just seed them 1 through 16 like they used to do...
