The Official 7-String Bass Club.

There are several places I could post this - and not that many would care - but to prep for an out-of-town show I decided to get a little crazy and run the Mesa stack with the GK/Henry combination. If I stand right in front of where my GT-7 is propped my feet get a really good massage. :woot: :smug: Even with the boost and volume dialed way down ol' Henry gets a good workout. Both rigs are slightly different flavors of awesomeness. Oh, the Goliath half stack wasn't hooked up either.

I just picked up this Ibanez BTB-7 on Monday at a local music store. I've been playing it a lot and really enjoying the change from a 4 string to a 7 string bass. View attachment 4260524
I would like in please- Ibanez BTB-747.

You don't actually have to be able to *play* the thing to get in, right? LOL!
Always nice to see more BTB 7 strings here. Have you both weighed those BTB747 of yours?

I've always wondered if the new model (with only a single truss rod) is lighter than mine (which has 2 truss rods).

@Aidil I have not weighed mine, but Sweetwater shows the same model to be around 11 pounds. It doesn't feel that heavy to me though
Right! SW currently has 3 BTB747s weighing 10lbs 14oz and there's another one weighing 10lbs 10oz. So, apparently not that much difference than the 2 older generations with 2 truss rods. Mine is from the 2nd generation, weighing 4.85kg (about 10lbs 11oz).

Well, finally got off my butt and set everything up for an F# tuning on the BTB-747. Fun fact: if you buy Kalium strings, because of the zero fret, they taper off just in time that I didn't end up needing to do any nut filing at all.

Went with a .176 set. Maaaaybe I'd like the the low string a bit more tense, but it's already so damn huge I'm not sure it would be worth it. Had to raise the F# string's action a bit higher than the others to get the fret buzz down to something I'm ok with.

As for the sound? Can't really hear below the B on my monitors (8"), but it's fun as hell through the headphones. Looking forward to fiddling around on my Helix with it and see how various effects react. Some day I'd like to try it on a 2x10+1x15 rig... Just not indoors... Unless I want to remove all the paintings hanging on the walls

I was hesitant at first but now I can't go back from using a low F#. I'm not currently using my 7 right now but hope to soon when I get a new amp and replace the one in my church's sanctuary. I miss playing it all the time - having those low notes for emphasis is a lot of fun.

Reactions: Jack Deth and Aidil
I got tired of reading other bassists saying things like, "nobody needs more than 4 strings" and "nobody needs to play lower than standard E, maybe drop D", and of course, "why play in the range of the guitarists, that's a bass!?"

So, I decided to go extreme the other direction and get both an 8 and 9 string electric guitar so I can listen to guitarists say, "why would anyone ever need more than 6 strings" and "why play in the range of the bassist on the monstrosity?"

Breaking all the rules now :bassist:
