Try it before getting a Zeus - just sayin'…Are numbers here still given out or do I need to claim mine?
I'm having the hugest G.A.S for a Zeus 7 rn. I tune up instead of down so not fitting a bridge cable is all good to me.
I might go down with the GT7, really need to try downtuning once in my life
At the risk of inviting competing bidders, anyone else seen the Mark Ramsay design seven string on eBay? I'm really interested in it but the owner says it does have a little neck dive. Otherwise it looks nice, and I hear Delano pickups are nice. Thoughts?
Bump - I have a lead on a nice Wolf 7 that I expect to pick up tomorrow. @gebass6, how's that NS eight string you just got? I'm envious - a Galveston 8 string wide-neck bass came through my hands many years ago when I couldn't afford it (sold it for a friend). I'd love to find one now - but they are rarer than Conklin Bill Dicken's sig models are at the moment!

Taking some time to acclimate myself to the different techniques needed to play it.
It's a multi modal instrument.
You can play it like a bass.
Play it like a Chapman Stick.
And like a guitar.
Every time I watch Chapman Stick videos I just want to go sit in a corner hunched up in the fetal position and cry.
Anyway, the Wolf is now in my possession. I need to disassemble/reassemble it as per standard protocol upon acquiring a new (to me) bass. That's always fun. I'm glad I have another translucent green bass - my first was a Dingwall and it was gorgeous. The second was a Washburn six string, but I wasn't sold on the tone. This will do for now but I still want a Bill Dickens sig one day.
Not sure why I didn't catch this before but the Wolf has a 35" scale length. The strings that were on it seemed old so I replaced them with some other old strings I had lying around (so I'm not sure which is better), broke one in the process, so I down-tuned it to F# (which is how I like to roll anyway). The longer scale helps with tension so it doesn't feel as loose as it would be if it were 34".
It sounds good at home; turning up the treble causes buzzing so I think I have a ground issue somewhere. Going to play around with it more. Overall it feels solid. The bridge saddles need to go lower, and the tuners are one level above crap. At least they work, but I removed them to clean it and snugging them back down stripped a couple of them. So now they are just finger tight and due for an upgrade some day.
Still, it was a good buy and having two 7's is a cool thing!

That is... if GC ever sends it to me. Called them today; they said they were out of bubble wrap or something, and are supposed to next day air it.Got another 7 inbound….

It finally got here! But I might return it; if my seven-string peeps could weigh in I'd appreciate it.
Joining the club! I nabbed a Skjoldslayer 7 from Reverb last month.
All of my other basses are 33" scale and this one is 35", so I wasn't sure it was going to work for me. Wider neck than my 6, extra two inches of scale - I almost gave up on 6ers a few years ago when I had a 36" Mørch I simply couldn't play. But I chatted with the builder and, confident I could flip it if it didn't work, pulled the trigger.
On Day 2 I messaged Pete about taking it on consignment from me. The extra 2 inches were too hard to manage… He was finishing up some builds and said we could chat about it "next week."
By Day 7 I was in love with it. Can't put it down.
I've run my 6 both E-F and B-C, and have great use for both configs. Now… I don't have to choose!
Also. I bought a fretwrap. Guess I'm invested.

I actually remember seeing that bass briefly on Reverb and was shocked, as I had never seen a 7 string Skjold before. You definitely got a nice catch there, gorgeous work on that instrument!
On another note, I'm technically a part of this club again, as I was very fortunate enough to get my hands on 'the' 7 string bass that I've been obsessing over for the last year or so. I had sent it to the builder (Chris Benavete) for a few weeks to have some work done on it, but should be receiving the bass back this week. I will definitely post some actual pictures when I have time later in the week.
As promised:
Chris did an awesome job fixing the bass up. I sent it to have the strap locks replaced with recessed locks, the Hipshot B-Style bridge was replaced with an A-Style bridge, the brass nut was polished, some fretwork and finishing work was completed. The bass basically looks brand new. Unfortunately, USPS did what they do best and the bass was damaged while in a hardshell case (the case is useless now as well). I'm not as upset about it anymore (could have been a lot worse). That, and I had insurance so we will see what happens with that.
Also, I had it set up recently and the strings are basically sitting right on the frets. Sounds and feels amazing!
