The Official 8-String (Octave Courses) Bass Club

I have a Dean Rhapsody 12 string, which is actually my main instrument, believe it or not!

Anyone else biamp their multi-course basses? I highly recommend it. My new setup (so I don't have to drag my guitar rig everywhere) is:

Dean 12ver>Digitech BSW>Peavey BAC-2>(highs only)Bad Monkey(mixer out)>Behringer mini-mixer>Sansamp BDDI>amp. Lows go straight from the BAC2 low out to the little behringer mixer. I also sometimes plug in an Akai Headrush between the mixer and the BDDI which lets me loop drum machine/guitar etc via the bass amp.

Yeah I have a seperate 8 and 12 string club but you can't find the damn things because of the search engine.

I only found mine because I typed in my own user name in search and put "club" in title only. The search won't even do "eight" or "twelve" as I put them in the title for that reason.

Your thread will suffer the same fate unless it is always bumped.

here they are.

Well, I suspected as much. Couldn't believe I was the first to think of this. Perhaps the mods could merge this thread with yours?

So are we gonna get numbers for this stuff? I can't have prestige without some sort of arbitrarily-assigned number! :help:
Yeah, numbers! I want a number! (It would be my first) :D

Numbers, pending the discovery that warriorjoe7 already created an 8-string club over a year ago & this thread may get merged or deleted, are either A) forthcoming (I've kept the list updated, currently at 13 members) or B) humbly delegated to warriorjoe7, since in all fairness he got here first.

Meanwhile, anyone who didn't post a pic owes me! :)

Alrighty, so I took the liberty of assigning earlier numbers to the folks who posted in WarriorJoe7's original Eight String Club, & then adding the folks who've posted in this thread. It's basically chronological. So far we gots:

1 – WarriorJoe7
2 – richnota
3 – DoubleL
4 – ModuMan
5 – DavKane
6 – BigRedX
7 – Ric5
8 – Hoover
9 – duckbutter
10 – Bassman316
11 – Darkstrike
12 – Toronto Bassist
13 – monkeyhaiku
14 – GM60466
15 – 12stringbassist
16 – Ctbass&birdsong
17 – Mr M
18 – SteveMcB
19 – Rob Martinez

Man, this Club administration is a thankless task... :)

More pics, please!

Currenlty have a stock Dean Rhapsody 12 in my collection, and a custom job 8 string fretless wishbass. Still working on the wish, but its coming along nicely, had it built it as a project bass knowing that I would have to finish it and it sounds amazing!

I'm in (final) talks to purchase a Dean Edge Hammer 10 10-string - I've always wanted a octaved bass but simply love my B-string far too much, so since 1994 I've used "alternate means" to get the effect - first my old school DigiTech Bass Whammy's Octave Up setting, then a Yamaha MagicStomp's same effect, and finally my Electro-Harmonix POG and then E-H's Micro POG, as the original was too large for the few settings I truly used. Each got better as the years passed, as in the Yamaha's tracking was leaps and bounds better than the Bass Whammy, and the MPOG better for my needs. But I've always wanted the real thing, and when the option came along to purchase one nearly mint for a fair price for both the seller and myself, I'm finally jumping at the chance...

Now I simply have to find a source for 10-string sets or buy 8-string and singles. :rollno: As well as if the pickup routes are for Bartolini or EMG and if so what Nordstrand pickups would work best for a coursed bass?

Also, a question for anybody in particular: I'm not a huge fan (read: not at all) of Natural Oil finishes, so any recommendations on methods to harden up the surface? Would this be a job for Tru-Oil? :hyper:

I've got a couple of Rickenbacker 8-strings.

Here's my early-'80s 4008:

And here's my mid-'90s 4003S/8:

(again no full length)

My first 8-string was a Tune that I bought in Japan - I had fantasized about getting an 8-string since high school, so when I found this one I jumped on it:

(sorry for the weird angle -this is only pic I can find at the moment) I sold the Tune when I moved back to the States - I didn't really like the sound of the electronics - I'm more of a passive kind of guy.
