The official Ampeg V-4BH thread

Waiting for my first tube ampeg. Next buy is speakers. Anyone tried 2x10`combined with 1x15`? Other suggetions from you guys who has played this amp before? I play hardrock/blues stuff. Some studio sessiones too.
Have a nice (bass)summer!
Honky

do you have the original cabs? i have heard that the V4 series cabs gave a great sound that projected into the audience well, but the bassist couldn't hear himself unless he turned WAY up, is that true? i have heard that people began carrying an SVT 810 cab along with them so that they could hear themselves.

True. I have a V4B cab, folded horn with Altec's and it is louder about 25 feet out than next to it. I also have an 810 and the two together at 2 ohms on my older V4B will rattle some fillings and tingle your gonads. Make a fat girl lose weight if she stands there long enough.

Hope it's ok to add to a somewhat dormant thread...

Does anybody know if the eq center frequencies were the same (or different) on the V4 and the V4B? IOW, was the V4B the same amp as the V4, minus reverb? Something tells me no...

I am not sure...I heard there is a difference in the midrange voicings??? Anyway, I have a V4 and LOVE it. It has a midrange knob and boost/cut switches to adjust the midrange. I like mine at around 10-11 oclock on the dial, with treb and bass around 11 oclock. This head has that great gritty low mids that I didn't have with my old Sunn 300T. I dont know, it must be a 70's Ampeg thing, but it is the tone that I have been trying to get for a long time! Cant wait to get a 70's SVT. I am also sure my cab is letting this head shine. Love the Berg! Gonna get matching grill cloth soon!

I was so freaked, when I heard that Ampeg no longer makes USA V4BH.

I've owned the SVT Classic head.
With Classic 6-10 cab.
Great amp, my kind of tone.
A pain to move around.

Just scored, one of the last USA V4BH Heads.
100 watts is plenty for my needs.
Med. volume gigs now.
In some ways I like the tone of the V4BH, better.
Eazier to push at 100 watts.

Get one before there gone?

I saw this but is this an inflated price from what they were new? I could probably get one used for around 500 right?

After coupons I can get it for 675 shipped. Is that a good deal?

EDIT: ready to pull trigger. Anyone?

Old price was $799.00.

Now most dealers are asking $899.00.
One dealer said, that the price Ampeg wanted the last ones to sell for.

I had one, and it was a lovely amp but I wanted something a bit more "oldschool" sounding and a little bit more power, so I got an Orange AD200b.

I sold my V4BH to a good friend who has several times tried to "upgrade" to a different head but always ends up returning them and using the V4BH again.
