You bet! She's not much of a looker. Someone added a master volume, my amp tech said it was done a long time ago. Knobs aren't correct, but they were on it when I bought it, so they probably date to the master volume install. The grille cloth has a vertical blue thread running through it. The logo isn't original, I don't think -- there are two sets of screw holes for it, one set makes it so that the bottom of the log is touching the bottom of the enclosure. I don't think this era had the logos, but obviously the grill cloth isn't correct either. For all I know it might not even be an Ampeg cabinet.

All through the '70's I played through an SVT with 2 V4B folded horn 2-15 cabinets with Altec 421's and it had just an incredible tone. I found the projection characteristics mentioned previously to be true but luckily I was playing mostly large venues back then and could keep them quite a few feet behind me and I also had a bass wedge monitor off to one side of my mike stand so there was no problem hearing myself.

I should also add what I use my V4BH for. Once in a while I will use it playing in a basement with a pretty loud rock band. I find that it is pretty adequate in that situation, however I find myself cranking it up just about all the way. But at those levels it sounds amazing. However, I mostly use it in a little quieter situations with some drums and one or two acoustic guitars and it is just so perfect for me. I have not played any loud shows with it, but if I ever do, I'm sure it would work out perfectly with PA support. Without a PA...that maight be pushing it. But yeah, I love my V4BH and I couldn't be happier.

Just bought one a month ago and am still looking for that perfect cabinet. I don't really need anything monstrous (high powered), just something that sounds killer. I wasn't too impressed with the Ampeg cabinets even though they seem to be a pretty common match. I've been looking at Bag End cabinets (especially the Q10BX-D) but have yet to hear them with an all-tube amp. Anyways, from what I've heard so far, it's a killer amp with plenty of power and tone.

So far, only the Ampeg 8x10, 4x10, 1x15 with the V4BH and then the Epifani UL310, BE S-15 (no coax) and BE Q10BXD. The Ampeg cabs seemed to have very little definition. I actually compared the BA115 combo to the V4BH plugged in to the 4x10 and while the V4BH was better, it was not MUCH better (as I was expecting). I'll definitely check out Aguilar and anything else anyone suggests! Thanks for the tip.

Was the "Power Tube" manufacturer SOVTEK?
"5881WXT SOVTEK Made in Russia 04 10"

I bought a V4B-AV (Anniversary edition) head brand new about a year ago, and have been having this re-occurring problem with it ever since. I could explain, but I need to know about the tube manufacturer issue first.

I suspect it may be one of the Power Tubes, but I was kind of shocked when I opened the back of her today and noticed these 4 Russian made power tubes inside the amp. Are these Russian made tubes stock OEM on Ampeg Amps?

Hopefully, the music store did not swap tubes on me. In addition, I have noticed some cracks on the metal bases of the tubes. This is what has got me wondering.

Can someone help me out??
