Yeah, I really liked this finish, although it isn't very well done. But sometimes wished I got the natural finish instead.

Hi everybody, Got some new pics of the bass.

I ended up having to route into the body to get the Bridge lower. Before The saddles were bottomed out and the string were still pretty high on the upper frets, so I took a Drimmel tool and set the bridge lower in the body. It was that or shimming the neck. Now It plays great and the Action is super low.

(If you look really closely next to the Bridge in the first picture. You can see a Minor flaw, But I would rather have that then having the action too high.)

My sentiments exactly. I'd be willing to bet if it's like most Brice bolt-ons that the neck already is shimmed from the factory.

I really did not feel safe shimming the neck, I went with routing the body because I could have easily screwed the bass up shimming the neck

I just felt safer routing into the body than taking the neck off

That's interesting. But IMO, shimming, even though you remove the neck to do it, was the easier, simpler and totally reversible solution of the two. It's your bass and obviously you have some skills with wood, next time, I think you should try shimming.

This makes absolutely zero sense, on any level. You thought removing a few bolts, adding a business card, then tightening the bolts again was more risky than removing the bridge and routing a hole in the body.

This, friends, is why we buy cheap basses. Believe me, I've made much worse setup mistakes in my time, also, thankfully with cheap instruments.

Please don't make the same mistake with a more expensive instrument. I'd recommend taking the neck off the Brice to see what's going on there. Learn to do a proper setup - check the setup forum FAQ and links there. Shimming a neck is ridiculously simple, and completely non-intrusive, about as simple as raising and lowering the bridge saddles.

No, I would not dare try this with my Musicman or even My mexican Fenders.

I will try it next time. My Brice plays great now and that is all that matters in my opinion

Believe me, I second your opinion not to try this except as a last resort.

We seriously considered removing the neck and shimming it, but we needed to get between 1/16" to 1/8" of an inch for this particular bass. That would've made the neck pocket all whacked out.

The routing wasn't too hard, but I would always go with shimming if that was possible.
