The official Ibanez Blazer/Roadstar Club

why is it that the treble sides fail first?
I think they get "bonked" more when jumping around on stage and/or the bass falling off the strap and landing on the treble side tuner. That's the only logic I can see.
Are there any 'four in line' Velvetune basses? that would help explain it too.

'falling off the strap' is the perfect seque to bring up my gushing love for the next generation Iby boomerang strap buttons. Do you all love these as much as I do?

It’s definitely hard to loose your strap with these!!View attachment 4095520
Those are the one's! I Love them!
I said "next generation" because I think Ibanez was onto the "smooth tune" tuners on their "deluxe basses" in this era, rather than the earlier 'Velvetune' tuners that informed my comment, and were on earlier basses with more tradition 'strap loosing' style strap buttons.
There may be a year(s) of crossover in the early 80s

Until the boomerang gets loose and turns sideways, aligns with the strap slit, and slips through.

I find them too finicky when putting the strap back on, after it falls off. It usually happens while I am busy practicing, when I Am Not In The Mood to dork with it.

BTW I have a 1986 RB690 in “ivory” (closer to buttercream IMO).

I just got an ibanez blazer 81. Is it possible to find a black white black pickguard for these?

Curious, How is the neck dive on the P? Mine has a non Ibanez Neck and the balance is off, im currently changing to lighter tuners but i have no idea what a true Ibanez of this type feels like.

On the two with the paddle headstocks (2 tuners per side) there is no neck dive. One of the reasons they're my favorites is the excellent balance. On the white one with 4-in-a-row tuners and the humongous headstock, there is very slight neck dive. My intent with the white one was to replace the neck with a fretless, but I'm not sure if I'll do that now.
