I don't own any KL but I do think he isalomg with the fodera, the best luthier for electric musical instruments. I have to say I decide to be a luthier based on both builder's instruments. Actually I am thinking of getting a KL ERB a la Jean Baudin... If I can manage my bills properly, I will order it, next year...

I still can't believe you sold me that Brase man! It's such a good bass. It's as good as any Fodera, Smith, etc I've ever played.
My other KL was actually Ken's personal bass. It's the best fretless bass I've ever touched.
I'm not worried about you though -- I know you have plenty of good basses to keep you busy!
I've been going in a different direction these days playing more traditional sounding basses (Allevas in my case) so I'm not playing these as much as I should. This thread reminded me that I need to pull them out of their cases and spend some time enjoying them.

I'm a huge traditional jazz bass fan, but after trying now 6 Alleva's, even one more this month, I have been very disappointed with build quality and playability. I just don't understand the hype, but to each their own.
another one I should have never of sold, what was I thinking! This bass is now in Germany, I tried to buy her back unsuccessfully.
She is, and I swear the B string on Ken's 33 inch scale instruments are the best B's ever. Once you go 33 scale on one of Ken's basses it is hard to go back to anything else. Plus it is so nice on the left hand in the lower positions.
No I haven't been, the only problem with it being such a nice instrument is I'm afraid to bring it to my funk gigs. Keep in mind when I play in that band I'm moving all over the stage, dancing around and acting a fool. I would hate to crash the KL into my drummers crash cymbal or something of the sort. The bass would sound perfect in that band. Even the slap sound on the ChamberBase is very Marcus Miller like. Most people expect an acoustic sounding instrument, but that is not the case, although I'm guessing the acoustic chambers do something for the huge sound. I'm hoping we can get Ken himself to chime in. I'll shoot him an email.

A big "Thank you!!" to Ari for setting this up and to all who've chimed in. I'm a very fortunate man to have people like the work I do.
In answer to the chamber query, yes, it does add to the "air" in the sound and I think the length of my single-cut is a major factor in helping the low B. Especially with an Oil and Wax finish, I find the chambers help the bass to have a really "organic" sound which is what we all love about old Fenders.
