The light for this pic was sunlight coming through a large, west-facing window to the right side of the bass in the pic. The gradation of brown tones from the nut to the end of the fb is not as pronounced as it might seem from the pic, but there's certainly some lighter brown along the length of the neck. My point really is I think the configurator images make the katalox look closer to rosewood coloration and the neck on my bass is definitely lighter than most RW fretboards in my experience. Not a bad thing or criticism, just what I see. I like mine a lot. Katalox is quite a hard wood, which would be another difference from RW. YMMV of course. Hope this is helpful

I agree with Bart...You got a great looking Cazpar with great grain pattern and that Katalox fb goes so well with the color.

That's the one thing I wasn't expecting on my Frog when I got it. The pickups aren't really where they were depicted in the configurator. In my case, the bridge pickup was closer to the bridge than I expected. I would have preferred it to be a little farther away, but I got used to it really quickly.

And oh yeah, that's a katalox fingerboard. I am very happy with it.

Looks so good, TK. You know, I've always wanted to go batpoopie crazy on my next build and shoot for an extreme burl with the greys and blacks and yellows and creams but the more I think about it, my punk teen 16 year old self would've hated it and thought it was gauche. The more I look through Adrian's collection and other places like Adamovic etc the more the appeal of something quietly "classy"like your bubinga choice really speaks to me. Someone else IIRC referenced Warwick. None of their stuff ever really screams over the top but is always super classy. I would like a walnut burl too but maybe something subtle. I wouldn't have liked something like Ziricote 10 years ago but now it has a subtle class to it. I think your choice looks :: chef's kiss ::

Also, one week in -- I f*cking love this Elwood. The Delano pups are just killer. I can go from something like Tool to Jaco so easily. The only tone I can't really suss out of the Delanos is that classic P sound but that's mostly true of any non-split pup. Overall these are the best sounding and most flexible pickup I've ever played.

I will say I think the tuners are just a few steps up from hot garbage and the only thing that mildly disappoints me about the bass. I may get around to replacing them some day.

If anyone out there new to Maruszczyk is considering a build from Adrian and playing with the configurator, definitely consider the Hipshot tuners. The ones on my stock Elwood are just 'meh'.

I can't end this post on a sour note... I love my Elwood. Looks great. Plays great. And the Delanos are killer.

I finalized my 2nd Maruszczyk bass with Randy at Bass Spotlight. Really great working with him. I really tricked out this 5 string Frog Headless! I recently ordered a headless Elwood L with Delano SC / Aguilar BP1 preamp back in October directly from Adrian. This Frog will be a combination Stingray/Pbass. It will have a custom Haeussel pickup that has a MM and 2 Split pickups in one Spalted Maple housing that matches top wood.. Selected by a blend between the MM and Split Pickups. 1 3-way switch to control the 2 splits Either one or both. The 2nd 3-way will split the coils or Parallel operation for the MM. 3 band Toneformer preamp with separate passive tone. Very hard to get both Pups in their respective sweet spots with traditional pups. This way gets it Check out youtube demo in next post. Victor is using a pick but these are vintage style pickups in a modern housing. Should be very versatile!
Mahogany body with Spalted Maple Top Gloss finish / roasted Maple 3 piece neck matte finish / Roasted Flame Maple FB with No inlay 4mm blue Luminlay side dots. / 19mm spacing 18" Neck Radius ETS Black Hardware.

That sounds cool (other than that super wide string spacing :)) and nice top selection!

So will the pickup placement be similar to the Purple Frog he has up for sale?
