Best movie ever = Rocky

The others I'll try to divide into genres, as I think of genres.

Comedy = Spinal Tap (of course ;)), tied with Dumb and Dumber

Good Action with Some Plot = Predator

Mindless Action = Highlander

Sci Fi = Star Wars IV - VI (The new ones suck hard)

Fantasy = Lord of the Rings tied with the Narnia movies

Super-Hero = New Batman Series

Horror = The Fog (the old one, the new is :spit:)

Western = El Dorado (John Wayne is my hero)

Modern War = The Longest Day (John Wayne + Sean Connery :bassist:)

Ancient War = Kingdom of Heaven


I'll put more down as I think of them.

Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Howard Hawks, starring Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant. It's a riot from start to finish.

Solaris (1972) by Andrei Tarkovsky. The American remake with George Clooney doesn't come close, even if it was a little more faithful to the original novel in some respects.

I just rented "Doomsday", a new release, and I have to say it was the worst movie I have seen in a long, long time. The dialog was so terrible that I actually could not understand how the actors managed to blurt out their lines without laughing. Every visual element was blatantly stolen from other high-profile movies. The scenery was chewed so badly by the main actors that it's a wonder there was any scenery left by the end. The protagonist was never given a chance to become likable (until debatably at the very end). The plot was so thin I seriously thought it must have been one of those movies that's based on a Nintendo game; but it's not.

IMO there was only one redeeming scene in the entire movie, and that was when a large-breasted woman taking a bath grabs a large automatic gun from behind the tub and starts blasting away.

That was a terrible film. However, in fairness to the "rip-off" comment, the director has openly said that he was borrowing scnees from movies like Escape from New York etc as a homage to the movies he loves. Also, Rhona Mitra is pretty damn hot.
