vic, I will be at snamm from wed -mon I am working the Hal Leonard booth Tom B. has my cell number if not pm me yours

I got this bass 2nd hand from a connection in the music industry as for the wood combos it has a walnut top with matching headstock, alder body, rosewood board on a maple neck. Near mint, showing light playing wear. Probably weighs under 8.5 pounds. I got it used

man I never payed so much for a bass but I am overjoyed with it thus far

Oh man that sounds great! Alder/walnut with a maple/rw neck. That's got to have a little more of the classic Fender character blended in with all the MTD goodness. Yeah, I bet that bass delivers big time. :)

I just picked up an alder/maple burl/maple/RW 535 and it's wonderful. Lots of pseudo-Fendery goodness in there with a lot of authority and growl. The tone when set flat is versatile in and of itself. I'm lovin' this thing.

Stop it!

Thank God they're both missing a string...

Welcome aboard the every-other-bass-in-the-world-sucks club...it'll be quite a while till you find anything good in anything else; it'll be "this is nice, but my MTD ______".

Cheers,
Cameron

Tony's alder/rosewood 535 may very well be my favorite MTD. I'm so glad he bought it...preventing me from selling semi-vital organs to do so myself. TONS of Fender goodness in there to go along with the inherent MTD sparkle and bite. As much as I love my walnut beasts, they're nowhere as versatile as this one.
So you actually checked that one out at one point?

Oh, youbetcha. This bass was the catalyst for Tony and I meeting, starting a great friendship, and driving each others wives absolutely nuts. :D
With Tony, a great friendship is automatically a given. :)

Oh, and I'm jealous of you both on that bass. I've always said, if I were to get another MTD, it'd be one more along these lines. In fact, my specific choices would be an alder body, figured maple top, maple neck, and a rosewood board. Not even sure if I'd go 24 fret on it or not. Thing is, my Marilyn has a decent amount of that mixed in. Despite the chambers and the ebony board, the fact that it has an alder body and a softer top (water cured redwood) it has a bit more of that classic character built in. Still not the same, but enough I don't need to suffer bad GAS... :)

that top is SICK!!

that top is SICK!!
Vic, your Marilyn was one of the MTDs that ignited my GAS for one of Mike's creations. I'd love to own a bass like yours or Tom's Marilyn.
Thanks guys! :)

Yeah, you don't see many WCR tops like that. In fact, to this day, it's still one of only three I've ever known about, and all three were MTD's... at least two of which were 535's. Our own Jonathan Starr got one, but his has a piezo in the upper chamber. The other went to a personal friend of Mike's. In fact, I think JS got one on the inside track because he also knows Mike from outside the bass arena as well. In fact, I think mine is the only one that was intended to go to a dealer after the NAMM show it was built for. Well, needless to say, it never actually got to the dealer OR the NAMM show. :D I'm super lucky to have it. It's hard to tell, but the ebony is also very tiger stripe flamed as well as blistered. You can kinda' see it in a couple of the other pics.
