The Official MTD USA Thread

Hi MTD lovers!

The preamp of my beloved Mtd is dead... :(
Thanks to Mike it will be soon back to normal.
I have to wait until september to have it back with the new preamp.
I get it back on thursday, switch on passive mode so i can play it until then.
Cheers to Mike and his serious job!

Hi Georges!
I give it to Dng but i am in contact with Mike so he can send me the same piece of preamp as my old Mtd has.
It is hard not play it for such a long time...

Regarding the strings, i like the nickel strings on my Mtd. Right now i have Mtd stainless it is ok but i really prefer the sound and touch of the nickel so i will get bak to nickel asap.

Cheers!

BTW,
This is the 535/24 that I got after the 635.

I probably shouldn't tell you this, but that blue MTD you just posted about? Well it either was, or still is, for sale. :)

MTD 535 "Norm Stockton" Blueburst, myrtle burl over
Tulipwood, 21 frets, Wenge/Wenge neck/fingerboard,
matching Headstock & trussrod cover To Body, case.

I called BassCentral to ask about pricing and order time they told me about a year. That same day Grasshopper shot me an e-mail stating that Mike Tobias had just called them stating a NAMM bass that was supposed to be sold to another customer fell through in the exact specs I wanted..long story short, shes on her way to my house today! Man timing could NOT have been better. A God thing:)

I've owned a two older MTD 535's...#329 and #46. 329 was a Ash Body with Quilt Maple Top, Wenge/Wenge. #46 with Maple body with Maple neck and Wenge board. Both were great basses, #329 was outstanding but the Tulipwood, Myrtle Burl, Wenge/Wenge has always been my fav wood and tone combination!

I played that bass, and it's GREAT!!!

Speaking of tulipwood/wenge- in case anyone is interested the bass in my avatar is up for potential trade for other 635-24 wood combinations (avadore/wenge anyone? :))- I have a post in the classifieds -

I played that bass, and it's GREAT!!!

Thanks Vic! Its always takes the edge off of the "Unplayed" purchase when some one can comment on the bass. You were at the show with "Bass Gear" correct? I'd love to hear your full opinion on the bass if you get a chance! I was SOOO excited when this came to light and was on cloud 9 today after I bought it then the bottom fell out when a dear dear friend of mine passed away from Cancer tonight. He was a great friend, pastor, Worship Leader and drummer. On here now in an attempt to get my mind off of it:)

Wow, from high (bass) to low (tragic loss!). Well, NAMM is a HORRIBLE environment to listen, and I only had a large Warwick combo to play it through, BUT, the playability was classic USA MTD... second to none. I don't remember detecting any significant dead zones anywhere, and the tone... yeah, you want that signature tulip/wenge thing, it's oozing it from every fiber. The neck felt great, and of course the pics don't do it any justice at all. You will be VERY VERY happy with this bass! :)

Thanks Vic. Yeah I'm excited. So far its been a great expirence through and through. This wood combo has always been the "Tone" I had in my head when it came to MTD and what suites me best. My Ash/Quilt Maple Wenge/Wenge was real close but this should be a "BullsEye"!!

Thanks again

Hello there,

Do you know who (what brand) is manufacturing MTD strings?
I thought it was Dean Markley bur I'm not sure. I'm thinking trying DR Strings but if MTD strings are the same...

Thanks!

makes the MTD strings.

BTW, the Canadian Distrbutor for MTD went belly-up last week.

:bawl:

Hope he gets a better one.

Cheers,
Cameron

Heck, I'm still hoping he gets a better U.S. distributor. :D (My understanding is he's going with the same folks who handle his import line...but by no means do I have the full inside skinny.) These strings - at least the six-string set with the .135 'B' - are either feast or famine in my neck of the woods. I tend to stock up when they're in, but there have been a couple of times in the past year where I've had to resort to using other brands.
