I personally don't like the look of it at all and can't imagine having much use for whatever tonal variety it might offer - but it's interesting to see that Mike is exploring other potential avenues.

Same application as a Musicaman bass or any other bass with the pickups generally together or a single bucker bass. Rock. That bass is going to be SUPER DUPER aggressive and growly as heck.

Think about songs like "Never Again" by Nickelback, just as one generic example (tho of course that bass doesn't have the required B string, but you get the idea).

Might not be every person's cup of tea, and definitely not as versatile as his other stuff, but if that's the sound you're looking for, that config is a GREAT way to get it.

I'd also imagine it'd be fairly good at a more traditional sound if you solo the "neck" pickup, but still probably not as fat as a P bass tho.

I totally agree. I should have specified that I couldn't imagine "my" having any use for the tones produced by such a configuration - I can certainly see how it could work for others.

IME, it's worth the wait, Your's is no question definetely....

About Mike's new protoype, it's very interesting, if now we can choose pickup placement as an option on MTD Bass.

I personally liked the way MTD's are now, because of how unbelievable the woods affects the sound on an MTD, and it's so fun to choose which combo will work for that dream sound, and now it's pickup placements too, more options and more fun...
