FYI, since we were talking so much about MTD voicing differences, pickups and preamps recently - I just got in a pair of Original series Bartolini M56C dual coils that I decided right away were not my thing, and am turning right around. They have maybe 15 mins of use on them! These are significantly darker than Classic Bass or the stock MTD variants, so if you're having brightness issues and you'd like more coil switching options, you may be interested:

Those pickups will work with 4, 5, or 6 strings as long as your bass uses the pretty standard US M5 pickup shape. Bar magnets of course, and two coils that run the entire length, so no issues with string spacing or string count if the rout is right!
Has anyone here gone from a 535/534 to a Saratoga and decided they liked that better? Why?
On my 434, measuring from top of the zero fret;
Neck pickup: 27 1/2" top edge, 28 1/4" mid
Bridge pickup: 30 7/18" top edge, 31 5/8" mid

NGL, was surprised when I saw you were trying these. Not surprised at the result though lol.
Has anyone here installed a tone control in their MTD and were able to get matching wood knobs from MTD (either a new tone control with a new knob or turn a single knob into a stacked knob)? I would kinda guess that the knobs are built from the same stock as the top wood at the same time and what you get is what you get, but I haven't asked MTD about it either...
