Just picked up a Hot Rod Red, Lindy Fralin-equipped 2000 MIA Precision last week in the TB Classifieds. Came to me looking like this:

Very nice, but I wanted to mod it a bit.

1. Brand new 2011 American Special neck.

2. Schaller strap locks.

3. Hipshot A Style bridge.

4. B/W/B pickguard.

5. Hipshot tuners and D-tuner.

6. TI Jazz Flats.

Imho you took a sweet looking bass and make it look like something cheaper. But that is just what I think. You may not like other basses that I think look great.

I like the stock look, but think the black PG and maple neck work better with the hot rod red.

Man that looks much, much better with the black guard/maple neck combo! Stock it looked like a Squier.

A DeArmond Starfire

I found a DeArmond Pilot for $50 on CL. It
came with a stand and nice soft case. It

Yes I did.

First I found that the tip wire had been twisted
off the output jack.

Then, I found that the hot lead from the bridge
pickup was not connected.

Then I found that a strand of shielding wire was
touching the hot lead on the output jack.

It had a rattle caused by the way the E string was
wound on the tuner post,

It has a deep warm sound on the neck pickup.
The strings have good, even response on all 4
strings with both pups. The bridge pup is real
punchy. I would like to have a Fender or Bass
Lines on the neck position,


It didn't have any knobs.

I had 8 of those knobs. They are on one of my
P basses also.

Just kind of stuck with um,

I've finally hit what I think is the perfect combo.

On the left, a Peavey Millennium 5 US. 35" scale, active, modern.

On the right, a Peavey Zodiac Scorpio DE. 34" scale, passive, cops a great P tone.

These are the basses that make me want to pick them up and play, always. Love them both. And I think I can cover just about any need gig-wise.

I got my Kramer 650B in 77-78 used because my fretless P-bass was just too muddy sounding for the tunes I was playing.We played together 6 nites@week in 23 states in the 80's.The P-bass is long gone along with my old Kay uprite and most of my hair!!!LOL,this is the only bass I've kept and I'll never let it go.Still solid as a rock and stays in tune forever,great sustain.Kramer made some great instruments in the beginning.But I'll always remember walking into a Sam's Club store before Christmas in the 90's and seeing Kramer Strat copies w/amp for $199 and wondering "Wow,what happened to Kramer?" No offense to anyone,I'm sure they still made some good stuff,but they made some crap too.

Ahh, in gonna love looking back at my old pictures and seeing how dumb the styles looked

But you must have taken very good care of your bass, it looks exactly the same.
