Essentially a copy of the Gibson EB-2 / 335 bass, major difference being it's completely hollow.

From what I could dig up…Univox were produced in Westbury, NY by the Unicord company, Eventually all production was moved the Matsumuku factory in Japan.

The Matsumoku factory produced virtually the same exact bass (save for a few differences) for Univox, Electra, Aria Diamond and Epiphone…literally just swapping out the name on the headstock.

I got lucky and had the option to pick between a mint Univox and a mint Aria Diamond…practically the exact same bass!

I opted to go with the Univox, but I have to say I prefer the "script" logo and the black plastic pickup covers of the Aria. I would love to put them side by side and see and hear the differences.

I played it last night at rehearsal for the first time and I gotta say i was blown away.
I wasn't expecting much but it sounded absolutely killer! Played it thru an overdrive petal and the fuzz was vicious. Stayed in tune and played surprisingly well. What little feedback I had, was the good feedback and totally controllable. Not to mention it looked cool as hell!

My band has a show here in NYC in two weeks and you can bet I'm gonna be rocking this baby!

My first bass (way back in the year of 1986) looked just like these, but the headstock claimed it was a Kingston, and the finish was a transparent purple lacquer. It was a novelty because the guitar player I was playing with at the time had the exact same version of guitar (red sunburst), and it was totally by chance! I remember that it played well for a beginner's bass.

I would, and have. Ive heard of people audition for a band and didn't get the gig because they didn't play a Fender. Even though 99% of audience members wouldn't notice/give a ****, some are all about the image.

I don't think it's lame at all. But I do think it sucks that there are bands out there that wouldn't hire someone who plays a Squier or an SX.
