So, I have always wanted a Warlock with a Widow headstock...more for the fact that they look cool as heck to me than any playability. I came across the kit on Guitar Kit World's site and ordered it. I got the kit just before Season 4 of Stranger Things landed. Prior to that, I had intended to go all black with chrome hardware on this kit. However, after seeing the final episode of that season, I decided to go with the red and black crackle finish on the body, with a black stain on the neck and headstock. I basically chucked all of the hardware that came with this kit. The only parts I actually used are the body, neck and jack plate. The 1/4lb pickups really do give it an aggressive tone...so definitely suited for metal. Quality wise? Well, the body fit with the neck is really tight. I did have to do some fret work on the neck, which wasn't terrible for a kit. The finish sucks, but that's simply because I suck at doing solid finishes. But oh well. The bass does suffer from some neck dive, which I'm trying to find a way to fix. My current idea for a solution is to take a drill and drill a hole down through the lower horn, out from the electronics cavity, and fill that with ball bearings and secure them in place with epoxy or hot glue. But, not sure if I'm going to do that or not. I have read that most Warlocks suffer from neck dive, so maybe I'll leave it.

However, since it requires a lot of knowledge and, as I see, it requires adjustments to my preferences... maybe it will be better if I look for a ready-made paddle (I have a few that interest me... .) from a well-known brand or I will talk to my luthier... He also builds guitars, although basses are second best for him, but I will ask how much it would cost to make a luthier like a tar devil..

Comfort wise, the neck is a bit chunkier than I like, but not horribly so. The neck dive is an issue and makes it a pain to play, at least for me. I got it from Guitar Center, used, so I have another few weeks to take it back, if anything's wrong. Doesn't seem like there is.

I am doing most of my practicing on my old bass (1995 Fender P-bass, photo TBD) for now, but I make time for this one too.

I didn't find a whole ton of discussion of this Ibanez here on the forum. Anyone got one?

The electronics of this Ibanez offer SO many more options than I'm used to from the P-bass. The Fender literally only has "volume" and "tone."

Unfortunately, I still haven't heard this Ibanez through my own full-size bass amp, only through the Fender Rumbles they had at GC, and my own headphone amp. It's in the shop for repairs, with about a month before the guy will even get a chance to look at it.

I started out on guitar, but switched to drums. When I was 15 I did extra yard work to get this Ibanez Gio (2000?) for $100 from the local store where I took lessons.

The bassist in the band I was in ended up playing it, so it got some decent teenage metal stage time. I’ve used it occasionally to jam and record for about 20 years.

A couple years ago I decided to get back into music after a decade-ish and wanted a nicer bass (and a 5-string like I always wanted). I held out for the coolest used bass I could find in my budget and got this Ibanez SR705 for about $320 (+ shipping + tax, ugh...) from Guitar Center.

It was listed as “Trans Purple”, I think because the headstock is sun bleached purple (from the original Blue Moon?). Anyway, purple is also my favorite color, so extra cool.

Also really like those abalone ovals.

I’m finally trying out flatwounds on it too and loving it. I’m really into reggae/dub (and jazz, drum n bass, punk/hardcore, grunge, fuzz, experimental, noise), so really enjoying the deeper tone and smoother slides.

Just don't worry about the opinions that it doesn't suit this guitar... The most important thing is that you/the band likes the sound.

My only concern with the bass is, can you hear it over the loud colors in your practice room?

All kiddin' aside, nice bass. I don't see a lot of them in purple. I'm liking my Ibanez so far.

My just 28.6" scale 5 string Ibanez GSRM25 Mikro Bass, tuned to tenor bass, G# standard, tuning, as in one half step bellow the upper 4 strings of a 6 string bass in B standard tuning, and then a high E:

I'm curious what you mean by this. There is a lot I still don't know about bass and basses (I still identify as a drummer...).
But yes, I am happy with it.

I have been getting into effects and learning the active EQ doesn't always play nice with my fuzz or compressor pedals (found tons of useful info here, thanks!). I also found a post documenting an active/passive mod I'm thinking about.

Here's my most recent acquisition: my (already) precious SBMM Ray34, and ofcourse it had to be in 3TS.

I have a parts J and P bass for about 11-12 years but always wanted a bass with the Stingray sound, or at least something that's really close to it.
So here we here are. Ordered one via a guitar builder/tech but hadn't the chance to test it because somehow he wasn't able to send it back so it was a gamble.
But in the end, so far, it's been a good gamble. It sounds great, plays great (I had it setup properly) and looks great. However there were some minor QC issues.

One of those thingies next to the saddles was not screwed in properly, same for the washer on the input jack. I also replaced the stock tuners with Hipshots and ordered a custom made tortoise pickguard. All in all really happy with my SBMM Ray 34. I had to get used to the satin neck though because I always played lacquered Allparts necks.

Hey, is this intentionally treated wood supposed to have this neck color? This, as I see it, is probably some new fashion and way for today's guitars...?
I don't know if it's good or bad, but I'd rather have it in the back of my mind that no one fried my guitar on a grill or gave it steroids to make it grow faster.
I also think that every bassist should have at least one Stingray...
