It's a basic5 Tobias with serial number 466
I recently emailed MTD and it was sent to Sam Ash in December 1985. It was priced at $1800 new back then.
I bought it at $200 (Money that was suppose to be for my disneyland trip) when I was in eighth grade. Best ever.

My main instrument 70s MiM Jazz, used in live preformances and recording. I also have Ibanez SR505, my old main bass, wich I use now for home practice and also record with it and semi-acoustic Samic. Last time I messed with it, was in my bands new video. I play it rarely.

It used to be a Peavey Millennium J/J but this one didn't sound good as is - which was a bummer because I used to own one and it did sound good as is.
The neck pickup is an SGD Sidewinder and the other two are SGD Neo's. It's passive with a V/B/T setup. The tone is connected to a decade switch (like a varitone without the inductor) with a bypass, 0.01, 0.022, 0.033, 0.047, and 0.1uf capacitors. The 4pdt mini toggle is a series/single/parallel switch for the two Neo humbuckers.
The last knob is a pickup pair selector. Setting one gives me the neck pup as "neck" and middle pup as "bridge". Setting two gives me the neck pup as "neck" and bridge pup as "bridge". Setting three gives me the middle pup as "neck" and bridge pup as "bridge". Finally, setting four gives me the neck pup as "neck" and middle + bridge pups as "bridge".

Those Thunderchiefs are, along with the Warwick Aliens, the best and prettiest acoustic basses around...
So, I stumbled on a trade and went for it. About $30 total investment, seems ok to me. It appears all stock so I'll have to deal with all the known pitfalls. I did have experienced musicians play it, since I can't play bass (yet) and they were happy with it's sound - once they got past the weight and long neck comments
