The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

Does it balance well considering the top horn/strap peg is at the 15th fret and the bridge is nowhere near the lower bout with a neck that long? Thunderbirds are notorious for stretching to 1st position... I can't imagine what it would be like on that bass.

If I just hang the bass on its strap on my shoulder without otherwise touching it, there is a slight bit of neck dive, not much, but since I play my bass waist-high when standing up, my right arm always contacts the contoured "hump" on the backside of the body which very conveniently and effortlessly balances the whole thing out.

In contrast, the Buzzard bass has the neck-side button at around the 20th fret... but the back "wing" serves as a convenient arm rest!

Yes, HRR = CIJ, CAR = MIJ. The CIJ had a pretty thin neck, much like a CIJ Geddy and 70s-ish spacing, this one has a thicker neck, a quieter preamp, and the rear pickup is further back than 70s spot so a really growly, snotty little thing. Now if I could only find it a MIJ Cobalt blue soulmate. That's one of the best "modern" factory colors they've had IMHO.

So I get the G-side pu selector switches, but what do the upper E-side switch and roller switches do?

Top switch is passive/active and rollers are bass/treble 2 band boost/cut. I don't do active very often so there is seldom a battery in it. Bottom is as you've figured I'm sure, pickup selector and series/parallel.

Thanks - I have 4 active basses; my Factorbird w/G&L L2000 9v pre, my Fender/Kubicki 9v pre '93 A/S Jazz, my Fender/Kubicki 9v Saundersbird, and the T2k Mk II w/the G&L L2000 9v pre. For my bands' rehearsing, live and recording (other than the Factorbird as it is fretless) - I use passive basses. I like both, and I don't avoid using an active bass - it just works out like that. I do use them at our Friday night jam-sessions now and then as they are great basses. They all have passive settings but if I use them I'm usually in an active setting, especially the Kubicki because that's where it lives.

Usually new GAS hits right after purchase. But this time I think I am cured for a while. Hopefully, cause the current price explosion makes it not easy for us bass freaks. May the force be with you.

I saw this on a local used stuff page, had to have it, even if the pickups and pots aren't original. Have rarely seen any for sale here, never a red, that I wanted the most, so you know how it goes...
It was fairly cheap and I managed to haggle it down a bit more, because of the pickups and pots.

Wanted to put DR Red Devils on it (someone from work gave me a set last week), but it came with flatwounds on it, never tried that before and it's quite nice.

I had one of these in college, the "Rudy Sarzo" model (it wasn't called that, but if you saw him in the still of the night video it was the same model that he was playing)... SB Elite II I think it was.... Had it forever and finally sold it last year. I even had Rudy's signature on it since my band open for Quiet Riot at one point.

Do you have any video or audio clips of the Acinonyx in BEAD tuning? I would love to hear this.
Direct from bass to Soundcraft UI-24r. Recordings are pre-fader. Not comp, no eq. Converted from . wav 24 bit to MP3 using VLC.

She's Not There - Key of E, both pickups parallel
Next four are a low F and Bb vamp
Both - first pickup selector switch in
Neck, second switch in
Bridge, third switch in
Series - all switches in

Last is an Open B to D vamp

Hope that helps

I appreciate you taking the time to upload these. Unfortunately, they are showing “Error” on playback. Is this working for anyone else? Maybe it’s just me.
