I dont see whats funny. When you take pickguard off you can see everything. It`s very hard to fit it, also holes on pickguard wont fit wood. That pickguard deffinitivly isn`t original. Take look at P basses from 70s and you`ll see.

if he wants to switch the PG go for it, if it were mine id throw something else on it but keep the original in case selling it ever comes up
 
As basic proof you can take this -
1. P basses from 70s
2. My P bass (without pickg)
3. My P bass (with pickg)

Two are keepers, one because it is the greatest bass in history, and the other due to sentimental reasons. The rest can be sold at any given time. One is for sale right now in fact. :smug:
