I think they've discontinued those ones, but all the Dot on Shaft stuff is just private label from a couple of cool oversea factories. It totally cured my itch for a hofner and didn't break the bank, sounds huge with flats, and it's a five string!!

Well the Jazz p'up is a bit plink-ish, and with the Fender Stainless Flats that were on it, it got pretty overbearing. I had a set of rounds hanging nearby and threw them on, and bang! That made a real difference. But so far, tweaked in just right, it sounds a good bit like a Gibson EB model, which I like a lot.

The Jazz adds a nice "thing" to the Model-1's depth, even though the Model-1 has some highs to offer as well. But the J seems to add something worth having... maybe it's a mids presence. I've just gotten it wired in, and need to spend some time with it.

It's got 250K pots for the volumes, and a 500K with the standard .022 cap for the tone pot. I might end up doing a pan/master vol... but for now, so far, I'm digging the Old-School Murk-and-Bark!

The Producer Switch... heh. It's from an old interview with Lee Sklar. He had this switch on his bass that he'd use when asked by whomever was producing that day if he could get a little more treble out of his bass. He'd say, "Sure" and flip the switch, which wasn't wired to anything. Then he'd play a little, maybe with a different RH position, and the guy'd say "Great!".

I always thought it was a fun idea, so when I got befuddled by the wiring process, I just cut the wires to it. Viola, Producer Switch!

Previously posted in another thread...my profile lists what each bass is...does not include a recently added family member: '98 Thumb BO 6. But seriously considering downsizing by letting go of my 80's B30, '70s EB2D, Super J, and '06 Thumb BO 5...stay tuned on that note as I try to come to gripps with actually putting them up...

This is my only electric right now:

It's a Yamaha fretless neck on a body I made from a nice piece of yellow poplar. Pickup is a Duncan Quarter pounder which sounds great, but since I use tapewound strings, I may replace it with an EMG to eliminate hum issues.
Also have a Johnson acoustic.
