This is the Squier VM P that has been discussed within various posts on TB. I know some people want to debate whether this bass is better, the same, or worse than the SX P, but I'm not one of them. I'd like an SX P also, and will probably buy one one day if they ever have them again. For now, I love this P and would gladly put it up against most MIM basses out there.

Thanks for the interest angydad. I bought her in Philly circa 1993. Original color was Chrome Red (kind of a metallic lipstick pink, with a black headstock...classic 'hair band' colors). Went through a phase where I tried to sell her, then she never left the case for several years. Always liked the great action and multiple tonal variations with the 5-way switch and the triple pickups - it's essentially a bass with Strat guts.

I was living in Seattle when I finally decided to make her like I wanted. I had Larry Pollock make me three Aeros and Mike Lull did the install, refinished into Olympic White and normal headstock tint, through body B string, chrome hardware (not seen in this pic), push/pull neck pickup 'on' switch and replace the TBX tone control with a standard 250k pot. I made the early 50's P Bass pickguard template and had Terrapin Guitars in Oregon machine it in red tortoise. The squared off 'slab' body was natural for that type of pickguard, and I've always likes the look of those old P's anyway. She sings both live and in the studio (slap, fingerstyle and anything in between)! My only regret is that the wood under the old paint wasn't worthy of a vintage two tone sunburst, so I went with the Oly white as a second choice. I don't think there are any others quite like it.

That made for an interesting read. Oly white as a second choice...worked out nice. I'm having fantasies of the same bass, in black(same pickguard),with white pickup covers.
I'd love to see more pics. I actually had the opprotunity to snag one of those a few years ago, but let it go, because I knew I would want to refinish it, and was too busy , and broke at the time to deal with it. Well, that thud you're now hearing is me banging my head against the desk...DOH!!!:bawl:

Black with white pickup covers would definitely look good with the red tortoise. If you're interested, do a search on ebay for 'fender hm'...Usually brings up a crop of HM Strats, but every now and then there'll be a HM4 or HM5 in there. If you getting one somewhere, let me know and I'll send you a trace of the pickguard; It'll save you a lot of work.

All of the instruments in this post are really making me envious. Mine consist of bodies made by me. I just enjoy creating them, I guess, but they really sound good, compared to some that I have played. Here is the best sounding that I have, even though the thing is made of marine grade plywood-I guess the on-board pre adds to the sound (along with the diMarzio PU)
