It's like "shoulder" without the "er" on the end. Rhymes with "cold".

Seriously tho, Nino puts out a great product, but I do prefer the Skjold.
Guess your after the spalted hehe. What kinda sound did you want? Those basses may look similar, but they wont sound anything alike really.

As for the sound, I want a modern growl that's not too bright. Not scooped. I want it to be pretty punchy and not too smooth. I'd like for the slap tone to be in the Jazz vein, albeit more modern and hyped. The tone I heard on the links posted above to me, as well as the one I posted from WJGreer here, is very close to what I'm looking for. If I get anywhere near that in a somewhat light bass with a comfortable feel, I'll be a very happy camper.
I like spalted maple, yes. It's just sharp to me. But I'd be very happy with an all ash instrument if it sounds good. I don't want it to be too ornate. No wood knobs or pups for me. If it sounds great and feels great it can be quite fugly though and I won't care.
Pete will likely agree here, but according to your tonal desires, I think you will be happier with #11. Cedar doesnt have that growl or punch to my ears. Fingerboard choice can tame the natural brightness of Ash as well to warm up the tone a bit. Pete can certainly help you nail down your tonal goals with wood choices. He may recomend a completely different bass alltogether. Pete knows his wood and the tones it will produce when finished better than most though - trust what he tells you.
