You are correct. You do need a Skjold. :D
I need one to try, or at least hear. I've heard some sound clips here and there. Anyone know of something in a musical context? I've been digging around, trying to find a bass I might like that has a modern growl, kinda like a Warwick, but I don't want a Warwick. :D I'm trying to marry tone and feel together on my next bass instead of just getting half of what I want.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. BTW, you just described one of the main features of a Skjold.

On the examples, check for David Dyson on youtube.com as a start.

Okay, saw those videos, and they're nice. Slap tone is right there where I'd want it, and that helps me. Anything else? Something with a fingertone perhaps?

Also, what's an average price range for a fiver, new and used?

And do any you Skold guys have one you might want to trade for the Q6 in my sig? :D

Check out the clips over at youtube.com/gingley. You will hear Pete playing my Exotic Custom Fretless 5 in a band setting, as well as MikeBass playing several of my Skjolds.

The post here by WJGreer, with the pictures, really looks nice. And the sound clip at the bottom sounds awesome. Just the tone I'm looking for.

Now, as for the feel, this is what will be hard for me to check out...

What is the basic neck shape? How about string spacing? I'd prefer 19mm.

Honestly, I have never cared for the body design at all. Recently, it has become less of an issue for me, and after hearing several clips that sound fantastic, I'm neutral on the shape. If it felt great in my hands, I'd probably love it. The body design seems to be rather small, so hopefully that translates into "light".

Shallow C, very fast and comfy. I believe it's 18mm by default. He uses A type bridges, tho, so there may be enough adjustment... otherwise, he could probably do a custom for you. Thing is, IMHO 18mm is the perfect compromise for both slap and finger style.

That it does. My quilted-birdseye top'd Pro Series Deluxe 5 is UNDER 8 pounds. It's stupid light, but sounds huge, and that's not just MHO, either. :)

Thing is, his body ergos are really excellent, so even if it was the typical 9-ish pounds, you wouldn't really feel it like you normally would on other basses.

VERY glad to hear that. 18mm would be very acceptable for a fiver. Just didn't want a 17.

So what you're saying is that what I'm feeling isn't really GAS at all. It's just that I really need this bass, ordained in the heavens, and that I should sell everything I own, go give some of my plasma, and put an order in for one of these guys today!

Yes.

(Spoken by someone who already has a Skjold 6 in hand, with fretted and fretless 5's in the upcoming batch.)

That is, unless you have more to offer, anyway... ;)
