I saw the P-Nut 2... is the 3 so much better? Not to mention I am GAS'ing so hard over a Katana NT5... anyone have any insight on the pro's, con's, etc on the Katana's? It is just so pretty, has sick inlays, and is Neck-Thru for a fairly reasonable price!

Definitely not my pnut in eBay buy I can't say if the iii is better than the ii. Different woods and electronics. I just wish they used wenge necks on the iii like they did with the ii.
I don't think i can ever part with my pnut unless someone offers me a ridiculous amount of $$$ for it (retail) and I can snag a pnut ii for a ridiculous price (eBay price seems nice)

I owned one briefly but stupidly sold it back. It's the only bass I've ever owned that I would buy back again.

played my Corvette $$ 5 at band practice for the first time in a while.....

erm......holy crap.......why am I playing other basses?

The low B is amazing.....tight.

it's more of a fat low mid tone, compared to other basses....really growly but smooth.
The Wick sits in the mix really well. Right under the guitar....like it should.
Live/practice I like the neck pickup solo'd in series, but the other settings are good too.

Still hate the look, but who cares...right?

I used my Corvette Fretless(stereo) today at rehearsal. It always sounds great but today, the neck must have moved...it had that sound....growl/muwah.

It has some wear on it, I bought it used, but I really love this bass. The variety of sounds you can get from it is just amazing.

Has anyone ever put flats on a thumb. If so was it a good or bad thing?

The great thing about Warwick's oil finishes is that pretty much all of that wear can be cleaned up - that bass can pretty much look new again.

I played a few Warwicks in a guitar shop once, about 5 years ago and wasn't nuts about the weight or the neck profiles, but I am pretty keen on the tone .

I'm thinking about getting a NT Thumb Bass (4 string) via the auction site and would like to know the following please:

1. Was 1991 a 'good year' for Thumbs?
2. Would a 9.5lb Thmb have very bad neck dive .
3. Are there any common faults/general buying tips to watch out for on Thumbs from this era?

While I am no expert on Warwicks, and I am sure there are people on here who will give you much better advice on the specifics of the year and model you have questions about, I have owned a few. I currently own a 06 Thumb 4 string BO. I was concerned when buying it about the neck dive because of all the talk here about it. I found it to not be a problem at all. The only other advice I can offer is that the first time i played a Warwick I remember thinking how I didn't like the neck profile either. After having played it for a few days I really started liking it. It seemed like the more I played that bass the more I liked the neck.

I think they become a little addictive both in sound and feel. In the last 2 years I have bought 3 Warwicks and sold everything else. I keep wanting to buy a P bass, because that is what you are suposto play, but I just cant stop looking at and buying Warwicks.

they had emgs and 2 band eq at this point. they're great at any generation, imo.

2. Would a 9.5lb Thmb have very bad neck dive .

personally, i think the 'neck dive' theory is hogwash. they sit horizontally, if anything. some people like to keep them around 45 degrees or higher so they call it neck dive. with a 4 string, i doubt you'll have issues with this.

3. Are there any common faults/general buying tips to watch out for on Thumbs from this era?

it's just older, so i'd make sure the pots aren't scratchy when you turn them and everything looks in order otherwise. the neck shouldn't have budged at all, hehe.

The Thumb that I'm looking at has J MEC pickups, but there's no mention of them having replaced EMGs in the listing .

Is there a Warwick enthusiasts website anywhere, where I could go to look at the history of their basses? The official Warwick site is (obviously) only focused on the new stuff.
