The Olympics

Me too, I watched the U.S. archery team come in second to Korea yesterday. Man that Korean team was totally on, couldn't help but say WOW. The U.S. team seemed to take it pretty well. It wasn't a tear up situation but the Olympics can be powerful for sure. Archery is one of my favorite things since I am a casual archer.

I don't have a good cable plan so was only able to watch for 30 minutes free.

BTW chicken pot pie = very funny!

The men's bike race was brutal. I didn't see it but there is a long, steep, twisty downhill near the end where the best strategy is to make your move there, go as fast as you can to overtake other riders and hope you don't wipe out at speeds over 50 mph.

They were falling like flies. One rider got a broken collarbone and another got a broken pelvis.

The women's was less violent way more dramatic.

It started raining just as the first riders crested the hill and the lead rider wiped out and ctmrashed into a tree. An American was left in the lead by herself, more than a minute ahead of a group of three riders together. Those three worked the draft together to make up the distance and they all overtook her in the final 100 meters. They finished with the three medals and the lone rider who was leading for the last 15 km came up empty.

An Archer!
Y'day on local Atlanta TV they did a great feature piece about a Para Olympian...an archer who started with it as a way to feed his family! He's won national and international competitions. and .......wait for it.......he was born without any arms!
He was visiting Atl. Children's Hospital (on the way to Rio) to talk to kids who have had limbs amputated...undergoing rehab.
I don't know any more than that...but I soon will.

Speaking of archery. Have you seen Sofie Dossi: Teen Balancer and Contortionist Shoots a Bow With Her Feet on America's Got Talent?

I've always loved watching the Olympics, especially the Summer Games. But this time 'round, I'm boycotting, well, not watching.

When Brazil was awarded the games, they promised to build a sewage treatment plant so raw sewage would not flow into the bay. They never did anything and the IOC seemed to turn a blind eye. The Brazilian govt's advice to athletes who will be competing in that water: don't open your mouth.

I'll be sittin' this one out.

I don't usually stay up late, and I didn't really stay up last night. My wife did, and I sacked out on the couch next to her. She woke me up whenever the gymnasts were on. Those young women are amazing. What was really funny was a section when the microphone just happened to be on next to them, and they sounded like the pack of normal teenage girls that they are. With the obvious exception that they are spectacular athletes and performers. They are absolutely worth losing a bit of sleep for.
