The Pedal Necessity

My pedal board goes with me to every gig.
I have a Demeter Compulator, tuner, MXR Bass Octave Deluxe, Fuzzrocious Rat Tail, Catalinbread WIIO, and (for now) a TC Electronic Flashback.
For ampless gigs I have the WIIO always on as my amp sim, and I always have the Rat Tail set for low gain OD as I love its grindy yet transparent character.
I use the Bass Octave because I play in a lot of trios and use to to take up space. I do the same with the delay, but in a different way.
And the Compulator is always on.

Slightly OT, but...I had a chance to play through a Super Bassman w/610 last week, and also heard the same setup in use live with a blues/rock band.

If Fender could figure out a way to get the sound of the SB's overdrive channel in a pedal, it would be THE pedal to have.

My board is super stripped down -- just a strobe tuner, Bassbone and a Cali76. Don't really need anything else.

I like to have a sans amp and a tuner. Which ones i use depends on the situation. Currently own two sans amps and three tuners. Of course they are all a little different. Have a rack mount and pedal sans amp, have a rack mount, pedal and handheld tuner

a distortion/overdrive/fuzz is the most necessary pedal, if you had to use one pedal and you don't count a tuner.

Tuner>Dyna comp>Big Muff (The Dyna comp effect is very heavy. I will probably replace it at some point.)

If I use an amp that's all I care about. If I run into the pa I have to have a preamp. I haven't tried a lot but I like my Sans amp BDDI. I have chorus on the way but I'm not sure it it will stay on my board or in my bedroom.

I primarily play fretless at this point, so the two pedal types that I will always have are a reverb unit and a delay unit. Currently, that means an Iron Ether Nimbus and a Pigtronix Echolution. These days, though, I usually don't any effects when recording except on the keys. I like to put the electric piano through my Darkglass VMT, sometimes in conjunction with a POG2 for a really nasty tone similar to what the keyboardist in Kneebody gets.

First get a good amp, then you can save money by not buying different preamps.

OD, chorus,tuner are the must for me.
flanger does not leave the board either even though it is not used often. Octave and wha are fun to use but not a necessity.

Chorus is definitely staying on my pedalboard.
