The Pedulla Club!

I've had this Pedulla Rapture J2-5 since the late 90s when they tried to expand out to other retailers like Guitar Center. I got a crazy deal on it because I worked there and someone had put devalument dollars into it to unload the inventory.
I love the look and feel of the bass, but I've always felt that the pickups were lacking. After years (decades really) of fence sitting, I've decided to upgrade either the pickups or the preamp.
When I popped open the cavity, this is what I found. There isn't a gain control on the preamp. The white wire is wound around its self and the blue\gray wires are soldered to each other. What the heck? That isn't normal at all for Bartolini preamps, but I don't know if this was something they were doing at the time. Has anyone else seen or experienced this? Should I email Pedulla and see what they say?

Hey y'all, got my first Pedulla late last night. I gotta say I am blow away with how this bass plays. I'm loving everything about it other than the color. Haha. I did have a few questions as far as the controls go. I noticed on mine it has a stacked pot for bass and treble and after doing some brief reading I couldn't find if that was standard or not. Did not seem to be.

Man, you know what I would do? Just try buying an Aguilar Tone Hammer or Sadowsky floor DI/preamp. You can set your bass flat and use the floor unit. It’s cheaper and you don’t run the risk of someon f ing up your inerds. Get it online at like sweet water or snag one used at g center if you don’t like it then return it and at least you know GK makes the Plex and Mesa Boogie has one now. The Aguilar is just like installing an OBP3, same frequency points for bass and treble

Are they still giving out numbers in this club?

Yes indeed! I missed your post and gorgeous picture on the previous page – occasionally my email updates for new posts seems to lapse. So - welcome to the Club #254 – first new member of 2018!

That solder job on the volume pot sure doesn't look like Mike's usual work.

I admit it, I have more than one bass. :) And a tiny home recording studio I record my self written songs in. Usually I do pop/reggae/moderate rock stuff but lately I've been doing more rock/metal oriented stuff. To my surprise, after trying all basses I have, I keep coming back to the Thunderbass. Before, I made the assumption Pedulla basses don't fit in a rock context. Too nice, humble, fits nicely in the mix etc. But they dooooo. The Thunderbass sounds amaaaaaazing with a bit of tube saturation and a pick!

That’s looks like an amateur preamp install to me. I see evidence of wires that were cut, possibly from the previous preamp (??), and heat shrink tubing or tape around where the current preamp was spliced in.

Couple months ago I purchased a restored '87 Buzz; still in the honey moon phase. Sooooo.....maybe I should get an MVP, so I purchased the red Buzz with the intension of fretting it. The day before it showed up on my door step, a gent offered me his '89 MVP. I only need 2 and am considering offing the red Buzz. But the red Buzz is a very nice stable instrument, I can't make up my mind if I should keep it or sell it. What to do, what to do.
Number please!

Isn’t the ‘87 Buzz also a nice, stable instrument?
