Thanks, some things work out better for not being planned. The Red is the youngest of the group; it's a 2014 PRS SE Kestrel (shameless plug for my NBD thread here: NBD - 2014 PRS SE Kestrel metallic red)
The White is actually a 1990 (based on the serial #) Buzz with inlaid fret lines, and to round out the group is my Blues, a 1988 Carvin LB90 fretless.

Hey guys...testing the waters here. This is a one owner (bought new in 1999) MVP5 in Peacock Blue. of course the gold is tarnished, but it plays and sounds stellar. Its just been sitting for a few years and wants to be played. Original case tool and manual . I just restrung it and damn... so sell or not to sell?

I haven't updated my inventory on TB in a long time, but I recently purchased a '91 PentaBuzz (now christened Aura Lea) and I had to share. The fingerboard was in rough shape - worn finish, digs in the side made by a previous owner with a pen - and I needed more contrast between the lines & markers and the maple board (very poor vision).
After excellent correspondence with Christine, I shipped her to Michael for TLC: new pickups & electronics, dark lines & markers, repair of the damage, and complete refinish. Michael also buffed the bridge & machines; I added the Q-Parts knobs & Dunlop Straploks. and that's his signature on the back of the headstock.
I think she looks amazing and I'm thrilled with the sound and playability. Christine & Michael are The Best!!!

That looks amazing you have to be proud I would be. After hearing about Gibson I'm happy we still have luthiers that care about their craft and signature product. There is nothing out there quite like a Penta.Hi boys & girls

If you can't get enough of that Pentabuzz sound, check out Mark Egan's last release "Living Standards" with Karl Latham and Vic Juris. Their take on some oddball stuff from the rock canon. It's the 'buzz in spades.
I have no association with the band. In fact I was never that crazy about Mark's earlier stuff with Elements. But he's done some interesting work in the last few years and this one and the previous "Unit One" really shows off the Pedulla.

Yeah, previous albums were a bit too new agey to me. With inexcusable synth sounds too. Like in the 80's when you got a new keyboard and looked for the most horrible patches to play to your wife. 
His new albums are terrific though. The bass on Unit 1 sounds amazing. His music has some edges now.

Yeah, Mark has been on a roll. I'd recommend "As We Speak" to any one wondering if you can play jazz on a 'buzz.
If you look at the early designs it seems like Mike was after a particular ergonomic experience from a pretty early point, which the shape was meant to serve. Basically to have your plucking hand more toward the front of your body rather than further off to the side as in a Fender. Beyond that I'm guessing it was just an evolution of his own aesthetic preferences.
On the topic of the MVP/Buzz design, one thing I've always found a little inconvenient is the placement of the volume knob. It's hard to palm mute or play with a pick because it's kind of right in the way there. I took that knob off the other day and it actually helped a lot. I can play pretty freely with a pick now if I want. I'm guessing not many Pentabuzz players use a pick, but I use one for maybe 30% of my band's songs and generally just enjoy having it as an option. Buzz basses actually sound great with a pick, especially if you turn the bass knob down and turn on the mid boost.
The next bass on my wishlist will eventually be a Hexabuzz. In the meantime, I've been looking up information and watching as many videos of the Buzz line as I can find. I couldn't help but notice the placement of the control knobs. Even plucking, I was curious if the volume knob gets in the way occasionally.
Nah, not when plucking. But when palm muting and picking you'll bump into it and accidentally turn it sometimes.
