OK! Why did you choose the JJ set-up instead of what seems to be the standard PJ set-up?
The answer(s) to that question probably isn't the info you want...
- I bought it used
- Mike's standard choices for 6-string basses are either the JJ or 2 soapbars - he doesn't offer a PJ combination on them
That said...
I have a PentaBuzz w/the PJ setup and I can definitely get a wider and more gratifying tonal variation from that than the JJ setup (Mike himself isn't a big endorser of the JJ option), even though it hasn't got the mid-boost circuitry that later versions have (the HexaBuzz has that, but I don't find it complements the fretless sound particularly well).
Given that his pickups and other electronics are custom, I've wondered a little about the lack of a P-style pup option on the 6s, but I'm not very knowledgable about the engineering of such things...
