exactly... for what i can see the vast majority of MVP/Buzz basses have an adjustable ABM bridge (ABM 3566 or 3706) that should cover from 3"1/4 to 3"1/2 (3"5/8 to 4" for the wider versions), so the 17mm (and 16.5 too) should be there :smug:

For me, that Pedullas provided a very even response across the instrument that I was not getting with other strings on my Pedulla basses. Smith makes taper core strings too if you want the more aggressive sound. You may want to try those.

Thanks for the comments, fellas. By "even response," do you mean most notes are the same volume up and down the neck? I.e. not some notes being "hotter" than others?

Yes I did note that Smith made taper-cores when I was shopping. I might check them out next time. Who knows, maybe I’ll decide I like the Pedullas by the time I wear these out. (I detune my strings after playing so they last a long time... :D )

Steel or nickel?
I'm a nickel guy but I thought the Pedulla nickels were unremarkable.
The steels OTOH were bright & twangy with a nice grind...I'd choose them over almost any other SS string for that sound.

One thing I've noticed about my Pedullas (4 and 5 string Raptures, used to have a T-Bolt 6) is that they sound great with any string--round, flat, half-round, nickel, steel, whatever! Most other basses I've had are much pickier.

I took my Pedulla to the bass tech last week and he shielded as much as he could - some of the electronics are epoxied to the bass. The buzzing is gone now - I'm very happy.

I just got my 6 string fret-less Stambaugh (Exotic) SC a couple weeks ago and I came to the realization that I can't stay in tune on a fret-less when I play with a band so I hardly use it at my gigs. The onus falls completely on me (even though it's a lined board with dots on top of the neck) - The bass's intonation is dead-on the full length of the neck. The bass is absolutely beautiful and is in like-new condition. It plays and sounds incredible and has some neat features and the craftsmanship is top-notch. Chris Stambaugh makes some incredible basses.

I'm really looking for cash , but if I did trade the Stammie I would want to trade it for a 5 String Thunderbass or MVP. I would even consider a 4 or 6 string Thunderbass or MVP if it really caught my eye. Just a heads up if someone is looking to trade their Pedulla for something different. I went with the SS (although I don’t remember why I chose them over the nickel). After playing a few times, I’m liking them more. They do seem to have better low end than the regular (non-tapered) Smiths did...

I don’t have a fretless – yet. But don’t give up so easily, Craig! Any new bass takes some getting used to, especially something as drastic as a change to fretless, but it gets easier over time with practice. It took me quite a while to get fully comfortable with a 5-string, but now it’s second nature!

I know a fretless is much harder than fretted, and like I said I don’t have one yet. But I have been thinking on the subject for a long time and have come up with a few ideas I hope will make the “break-in” easier. I guess I’ll find out for sure some day whether or not I’m barking up the wrong tree, so maybe you can put all this to the test right now and let me know. :D

For starters, since we’re used to hitting the fretboard more-or-less dead-center between the frets, try tuning the fretless bass that way. IOW, tune it so that the note is tuned dead-center between the frets, not directly on the fret. Naturally, the trade off here is that you can’t use any open strings. (I’m sure the experienced fretless guys are howling at the thought of this, but hey give us newbies a break!)

Second, the frets / notes are much closer together up in the second octave of the neck, which makes it really, really easy to mis-fret the note. Even the slightest deviation from perfect fretting will have the note out of tune. So - avoid the upper end of the neck! Stay down at the low end where the notes will still sound right even if you don’t nail the fretting perfectly.

Third, only use the fretless for slow songs where you have a simple part. It’ll be easier to perfectly nail quarter notes than running all over the neck with a fast song! Hopefully eventually you can do that, but for now just stick to using the fretless for songs with basic parts.

Thanks for the advice Wayne. In all honesty I would love to keep the Stambaugh and improve on my fret-less playing , but my financial situation has kinda forced me to make a tough decision to sell it. It does play incredibly smooth and I think if I (or anyone for that matter) invested a bit of practice time on it they would become a good fret-less player. Even though this is a 6 stringer I think that it would be a good bass to learn fret-less on because it does play so well. While I am definitely looking for a cash deal for my bills , the only thing that could possibly persuade me into a trade would be a 4 or 5 string Thunderbass or MVP - That's why I posted it on this thread. I have turned down several interesting trade offers already (Warrior , Edinburgh , and a Rob Allen MB2). Even though I badly need to re-coup some cash - I love my 4 string Thunderbass so much and it would be hard for me to turn down another Thunderbass , and I've always wanted to try an MVP. Thanks again , and you are doing a great job taking over for p0k!

Can't directly answer that question, but I will say that the solid-color Pedullas I've seen (like my Candy Apple Red '94 Rapture SB4) are prone to chipping. My 2 clear-finish Pedullas (Arctic Night Rapture J-2000-5 and Cherry Red ThunderBolt 6) haven't had that problem.

Also, I have to give a big thumbs-up for Pedulla customer service...I emailed them about a bridge screw last week, Mike P. himself called 3 times until he reached me. Even when I told him I wasn't going to buy anything he gave me 15 minutes out of his day to "talk bass". He was very helpful and I could tell he's still excited by what he does after all these years!
