I remember being 15 or 16yrs old and helping my friend take his Ampeg 6x10 up the stairs in his house. Genuinely a frightening situation lol.
Summer of 1976, I'm 15 (-and-a-half) years old, been playing guitar for an original theater review that did two weeks of performances at the local high school so my amp -- which includes a Fender Dual Showman 2x15 cabinet -- has been living in the auditorium for the entire month of August, ever since my Dad halped me cart it to school in his big Chevy Impala.
The day after the final performance, I'm told I need to get my amp
out of that auditorium...but Dad and his Chevy are away on a business trip. Mom's car is a Volkswagen Beetle.
Amazingly, my good friend (also named Bob) and I were able to somehow squeeze that enormous Dual Showman cab into the back of the Beetle, with its rear seat folded down, and an awful lot of cursing and sweating. I think it took us 40-50 minutes of sheer grunt work once we opened the VW's doors.
Oh, wait, but the fun was just beginning:
It took me three days to get that speaker cabinet out of the VW! My buddy Bob wasn't around, Mom wasn't gonna help ("You got it in there, you get it out!"), Dad was still out of town... I would wrestle with that thing for
hours just to get it to budge an inch or two out of the car. THREE DAYS!!!
I sold the Dual Showman the following week.
