The perfect OD pedal ?

I have listened to demos of most of the suggestions in this thread, other threads, and I do not generally most overdrives on bass.
But I like the Darkglass B3K. Of course, it among the most expensive.
I plan on saving up for one. It would be the only pedal in my rig. I don't want a pedal board, I just want one good OD for metal.

I've been using an Amptweaker Bass Tight Drive for almost 2 years now. I looked for a long time but hated the bass loss I got with most ODs. I had Amptweaker do the dry bass blend mod to this thing and now I never shut it off.

Having owned the Xotic Bass BB Preamp AND the Zoom, I can say the Zoom BB is one of the models where they got nearly the same character as the original. It's an excellent sound.
Are there other boutique pedals modeled in that thing? That is just cool. I'm surprised, guess I've been living under a log. I can imagine Brassmasters, etc, but the BB is more obscure I thought. I use my BB religiously but haven't used a multi-effect like the Zoom in ages. To me that's a pretty big prop for the BB…..
Does it still have the amp-like response of the BB pedal? Crazy times we're in I guess…..;)

Boss ODB-3. A real sleeper of a pedal.

My second suggestion is a Big Game Bedlam. Flip the internal bass boost switch on and you will find no low end loss.

I usually stack these with low gain settings on both.

FWIW I play in a very loud doom band in C standard and drop A#.

The Aftershock just may be something worth looking into for your situation. It's on of those things that can get just about any type of OD and then tweak the heck out of it.

Not sure if you've ever tried the Way huge Pork Loin, and stock, it may be too dark. But if you do the JohnK mod (a 1 cap swap out), its KILLER!! It's bright, its punchy, low end is nice n fat and tight, its got great flavor, it responds great to tubes IMO. I run mine into an all tube KT88 powered beast, an Electric Power Unit. Love that OD. And Ive been a total OD whore for at least a couple years not settling on anything for too long. Even ones I really liked and even still like a lot. The PL just has something I didnt find in any other OD I tried.

If you like the OCD, maybe you didnt, the Bedlam by Big Game is another favc of mine. Also great with tubes.

And the Mr Black Bass OD was also very nice. Very OCD/250'ish.

Ive actually been using the Fuzzrocious Rat Tail for a really grindy aggressive OD lately too. Does the job better than almost anything Ive tried.

The Darkglass stuff works great with tube amps as well. Any of it. I run a B7K ultra all the time. Clean though. Really helps shape my dirt sound up to where I want it. But the dirt on it is pretty awesome as well.

Anyone would say "simply push the gain of the head to get the grit"...but I love powerful, punchy, round clean sound I get from it. I don't want to sacrifice that as I switch a lot between clean and drive during songs.

I am looking for a good "mild" "growly" "tubey" OD to get with a pedal. BUT also without losing any Low-End, nor punch, nor "width" of my original tone..in one word, "transparent".

I know exactly what you speak of. I love the tone I get straight from my amp and I hate when I step on a pedal and all of that authority is completely lost, thus ruining the mix.

Here are a few options to check out...
-Creation Audio Grizzly Bass. It's transparent, does low gain very well, and loses nothing. If anything it makes your tone a little fatter.
-Xotic Bass BB Preamp. I find it really does a nice job at retaining the majority of my original sound and adds OD or distortion onto it. One of my faves
-An Ampeg simulator. When I run my SVT II I will use a VT Bass for my overdrive, because it retains all of the Ampeg flavor...since that's what it's meant for.

@CassiusRegular Have you ever tried something as simple and cheap as an EHX LPB-1? I used to own an SVT and it pushed some pretty sweet overdrive out of it. It really depends how hot your Lollars are in your Precision too.. Your tone might suffer if they are too hot.

Hello. Try a Tim pedal by Paul Cochrane. If you can't find one (likely), then try a Timmy.

Good luck!

Definitely second a timmy for a good transparent drive sound. JohnK has samples on his page, I built mine off the vemuram layout on tagboard and the samples he provide certainly do it justice. Good range of drive and bass/treble controls help tailor the sound a bit. Very responsive pedal.
