Despite the huge marketing push by NYXL, it doesn’t seem like they are many people’s favorite based on 9 pages of responses so far. I remember when NYXLs first came out there was huge favorable ratings everywhere.


I personally like nickel wound elixir nano webs for rounds and chromes for flats.

The perfect string is like the perfect bass...only a concept.Many tries and some goods IMHO Prosteel, Rotosound RS66 Labella Black Nylon not bad the Red Devil covered. From the past DR Bassics were flexible good tone and quite long lasting...D'Addario's Nickel are affordable.

TIs on a rosewood P is the closest I’ve come to and upright but it’s not as versatile as round wounds on a J IMHO.

Still settling on a set of strings for the acoustic. .

I also love TI flats and hate phosphor bronze strings for acoustic BG......I highly recommend you try the TI flats on your ABG. That was a revelation for me.

I just started using D’addario XL Nickel Wound reg light top med bottom on my jazz bass. I think these are my favorite so far. Really dig low action and low tension makes playing feel effortless.

Yes and no. I bought a '68 P bass in 1980 that was strung with obnoxious black tapes. I restrung it immediately with a light set of rounds with black silk ends. I don't remember what brand they were, but they stayed on there until earlier this year when I put on a set of TI flats. I would recommend the black silk brand to everyone, but I don't know what it is.

Yes. For most of my Basses. D'adarrio Flex Steels 105-45, but they're not being made anymore. When they discontinued them, I bought every pack that musicians Friend had left (12). I still have 9 packs or so left because also had 5 packs in reserve before and I soak the strings in denatured alcohol when I put on a new set and recycle. Works really well. Doubles the life of steel strings. I wish they would bring them back.

I've been using DR's the past few years but frankly...I am not all that selective. They're just strings.

I've pretty much settled in on Dunlop Super Brights, the Marcus Miller set.

But I'm sure I'll continue trying other strings out, from time to time.
